I visited many places in Plymouth and in Ann Arbor before choosing this gym. The quality of instruction, and equally as important the training partners, is outstanding. My bjj is improving much faster than it was before. Finally, I've never felt like I was just a commodity to EJ, unlike other gyms.

Phenomenal school! I had heard great things prior to when I began training at RJJA Plymouth- but I honestly could not believe what an amazing group of training partners and great people that I walked into (zero exaggeration here). On top of that, EJ runs his school with a great atmosphere- we train hard but always safe! EJ's knowledge and instruction is extremely vast and *incredibly* technical, however it is also well suited for all skill levels. There are TWO black belts at RJJ Plymouth, with other black belts that visit fairly often- most schools in Michigan are lucky to have just one. If you're looking for a school to start training Jiu Jitsu in the Plymouth or surrounding area don't waste your time anywhere else.

Couldn't agree less with this David guy. Apparently he's fictional because I've never met him. If you want to train with high caliber Jiu Jitsu players, RJJA is the place to go. Everyone is humble and willing to share their knowledge. There are no cliques like other MMA gyms I've trained at. If you don't believe me, come train one time and you will never want to go anywhere else!

This is my family. Everyone here is a respectable and awesome person. We all train hard and there are people that are simply amazing at this martial art that train there. If you're looking for good Jiu-Jitsu, this is the place to go. EJ is a friendly and vastly knowledgeable instructor that can help you learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu no matter your body type or age. EJ is also a very well decorated competitor in the sport of BJJ. The gym itself is in a very easy to reach spot and has tons of restaurants and bars to visit after training, healthy options and not. Not only this but the mats at the gym are cleaned daily along with the rest of the gym which if you are completely new to this thing, might not seem like a big deal, but go visit a school that doesn't clean them everyday and you'll see why this is awesome(thank his wife for that!). Drop in and see for yourself.

Over the last five and a half years I've trained at many schools around the country. This is one of the best. EJ and Mike are both very detailed and knowledgable instructors, with complementary styles ("little guy" and "big guy" BJJ). It is a friendly environment, and welcoming to newcomers, with many higher level belts frequently training, and with a good mix of competitive and laid back practitioners. I am not sure why David said that we don't practice takedowns or leglocks. Maybe he only stopped into a class or two (we have no record of him attending)? Stand up is frequently addressed, especially near competition -- much more so than I've seen at most BJJ schools. Leglocks are also covered fairly regularly, and we have several people who are very good with them. It is true that we don't specialize in them, but that is the nature of the art (if you want to specialize in throws, take Judo or Wrestling, if you want to specialize in leglocks, take Sambo). It is also true that we don't train striking, but we don't claim to -- this is a pure Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school, and in my opinion one of the best in the area.
