A great school to train at! The detailed instruction from Todd Williams is world class. The welcoming atmosphere had me excited to train from day one!

Outstanding place to train, Todd is a great instructor for anyone looking to learn and is very professional. The school itself is a welcoming environment full of great people, would recommend anyone in the area to check it out.

I would highly recommend Monroe Jiu Jitsu. Todd is an amazing instructor, and his classes are top notch! My daughter started classes at Monroe Jiu Jitsu last August, and it has been a game changer for her. She has adopted a healthy lifestyle, has more confidence, and is so much happier. Thank you Todd for your commitment to your students, and your practice!

I have trained BJJ at other schools in Michigan and I have never had more fun or been in better condition than I have since joining Monroe Jiu Jitsu. Despite his years of experience studying BJJ himself, Coach Todd knows that just because someone is a black belt it does not qualify them as being a good instructor. He asks for feedback from his students to make sure his classes are effective and fun. His prior life as a runner helps boost our conditioning. Anyone interested in BJJ would be hard pressed to find another school that offers class or open roll as much as 7 days a week. This is not a MMA school and there are no egos here that typically come along with that curriculum. I recommend this school to anyone who will listen.

I have been training at Monroe Jiu-Jitsu for a little over a year now. Coming from a background in martial arts and having trained for some time in jiu-jitsu already, I was looking for a place to continue my journey at a location that was close to home and with an instructor that had a high level of understanding in self-defense (and the ability to teach it effectively). I was very pleased when I found all of these things and more at Monroe Jiu Jitsu. Coach Todd is a great instructor and has dedicated many years to sharing this art with others and teaching people this no-nonsense, no frills approach to self-defense. While a lot of other schools teach from a more sport oriented philospohy and perspective, the jiu-jitsu at MJJ is taught with self-defense as the guiding principle; the way it was intended. Todd’s attention to detail and his ability to explain things in a way that is easy to understand make the learning process an easy and fun one. He works with each student and their level of skill and experience to make the best use of their time on the mats. As far as jiu-jitsu goes, you would be hard pressed to find a martial art that can give to you all of the benefits that jiu-jitsu can. I would encourage you to do some research on the subject if you are unfamiliar with it. You will discover that both law enforcement and the military have made this art a focal point of their training due to it's effectiveness. And you don't have to be in great shape to start. Jiu-jitsu works for anyone willing to give it a try. Getting into great shape and learning something useful WHILE HAVING FUN is all part of what makes this martial art so special. I would encourage anyone who is looking for a great workout and some highly effective self-defense to come check out MJJ. You will not find a friendlier place to train or a better teacher, hands down! - Matthew Miller
