Excellent place to train and learn! Sensei Hunt does an incredible job of teaching karate with his proven methods and many years of practice and discipline. The other black belt instructors are top notch as well and are eager to help you learn. As a former karate student of many years (and a big critic of most styles), I highly recommend JSKA. You will receive a rewarding experience that is second to none in the Rochester area.

Very disappointed with the attitude and talking tone of the owner ! I was not asked to leave, but I left because of disrespectful way of addressing/disagreement with owner. He was arrogant/insulting me. I tried to suggest him to change, but he did not accept any feedback. He thinks very high about himself/he wants to be worshipped. His response below with threatening tone proves it. Also, he asked his worshipers to put 5 stars reviews and applaud him. I started Martial Arts training in 1982, in karate, and Judo in 1980. This is the a bad mentality, and, in general, in Michigan, many low level people are doing this in karate ! This is why I posted my critical review here, maybe he will start thinking he is wrong/ he will correct, not asking his "worshipers" to publicly applaud him and think he is perfect... Comparing to other people who talk behind his back and are smiling in his face(Brian/Andrea, etc), at least I told him directly what I think. And to respond to his nonsense statement, below, to the end: I really started getting better in performance since I left this "dojo". I competed in 7 tournaments, including one World Championship, and won 6 medals. In this "dojo" you cannot learn the REAL karate, just because the owner, doesn't know it. His mental limitations from arrogance, and pleasure of being worshiped, along with his passion for gossip and intrigues (he spread negative words about me in other places) definitely prevents him from understanding/ practice of the REAL Martial Arts, regarding of how many dans he would pretend he has/show off on his belt ! I would say this is a BIG PROBLEM in karate, comparing to other Martial Arts/Judo, for instance. As long people in karate are going to be arrogant&looking for money/profit, they will continue to destroy karate and move it to "dancing and fencing"/fake "martial art", level.

Sensei Hunt has been an instructor for many years. He is a skilled teacher able to help young children gain confidence and skills in the martial arts. I attend his adult classes and am always challenged. The classes are safe and a very good value for those wishing to learn traditional martial arts. After a short time of training, new students can use their knowledge to avoid violence and to deal with the stresses of our society. I highly recommend JSKA Rochester and Sensei Hunt.

I've been training at JSKA Rochester for almost 5 years, and my son has been training there for 7 years. Sensei Hunt is an extremely knowledgeable teacher, who is able to break down instruction of techniques for the most novice student, yet delve into very technical details with his advanced students. The club has a large, stable base of students, allowing us to develop bonds both in and out of the dojo. The school is family-friendly, with many families who have two or more family members enrolled. The senior students are accommodating and helpful for the junior students. Ego is left at the door and everyone is accepted no matter where they are on their journey. If you're interested in a program that will actually teach you karate, will challenge you to improve yourself, is welcoming to beginners and advanced students alike, and is run by a top-notch instructor, JSKA Rochester is the place for you.
