Great instructor. Good self defence practice

Apr 4, 2017
I've done various martial arts over the years from Taekwondo to MMA style classes. For various reasons I drifted away from all of them, but about six months ago I was looking for a way to get back into shape and finding the gym boring I decided to martial arts again. I found Traditional Okinawan Karate of Pleasant Valley and took them up on their two weeks for free-I signed up after my second class because I enjoyed it so much. The instructors are all really great and Mr. Borland the head instructor really takes the time to get to know you, your strengths and weakness, and how to push you just a little farther then you thought you could go. I don't have children taking classes, but from what I've seen all the instructors have a really great rapport with the kids. As an average sized woman, I find the self defense aspects they teach to be very practical. Which was not necessarily true of other martial arts I've tried. If you're looking to get in shape, learn self-defense, have fun, and meet great new people, I can't recommend Traditional Okinawan Karate of Pleasant Valley enough. If you're looking for a place for your children to be active, learn self control and discipline, I also couldn't recommend it enough.

I've been a student here for the last 5 years and I couldn't ask for a better experience. Between the instructors and the students, everyone is helpful and creates an enjoyable environment. I was so impressed with my experience that both my kids now join me, and they look forward to going to class. Over the years we've seen that this is more than just a karate dojo, but also an incredible community that me and my family are very proud to be a part.
