We love this gym. The kids really enjoy their jui jitsu classes and coach Bill is great with kids.

Feb 23, 2017
I am an advanced Jiujitsu student and was a member at Alive MMA for 5 years. I was a coach there for 2 years before I left. There is a lot of bad things about Alive... There is a man there that has sexually harassed me for years. For example, he threatened to kill my male best friend by stabbing him in the back because he believed we were dating and he was getting in the way of me dating him. He called me a man hating dike because I refused to date him. I endured years of this. I told what was happening but everyone laughed and assumed I can handle it because I am strong. This man loudly and proudly sexually harassed everyone at the gym, men and women. He screams racist and homophobic comments on a regular. Nobody liked it but it just became acceptable. We got used to it. Recently he physically held down a woman seen as weak and he was immediately sent to sexual harassment training. The sexual harassment is now quiet and only done to people who are in on "the joke". But the homophobia and racism continues even today. His behavior is unacceptable, offensive and scares me! My blue belt test was 7 weeks of mental and physical abuse that I will never accept or endure ever again! Coach Bill's classes are great for conceptual learners who are young, big and strong... I am a detail orientated, 40 year old woman. After my blue belt test I spent 3 years trying to get Bill to understand why his class was not safe for women, small people or older people. He is a kind intelligent man, but for some reason he cannot understand anything I say to him on this topic . In this 3 years I learned so much. Bill is very good at Jiujitsu and his game is a huge part of my game. I am thankful for the information he has shared with me. During this time, injury, emotional outbursts and tears became the norm. My life was an emotional roller coaster because of the gym. Nearing the end of this 3 years, Jiujitsu was no longer fun and I considered quitting. All of my efforts were in vain and it ended up extending the mentally and physically abusive purple belt test from 7 weeks to 6 months. When I received my purple belt I had thousands of dollars in doctors bills, countless hours of mental/physical pain and suffering. I was on the brink of being fired from my job for time loss due to this pain and suffering. My belt was given to me in a disrespectful way because I attempted to refuse the abuse. I finally decided that was enough and stopped attending Bill's classes. I gave up hope of getting through to him. When I decided to leave the owner refused me a refund of over $900 of unused prepaid gym dues. His excuse was terms he made up on a contract that does not exist and that I was welcome to train there. He didn't care that I was no longer comfortable there!
