Small dojo with personalized instruction makes for a perfect learning environment. Extremely practical martial art. Friendly and casual environment. Excellent teachers that explain the principles behind techniques so you can execute with effectiveness. The focus is on street defense, not competition. They build people who know how to protect themselves with the smallest and fastest techniques necessary. It's roots are in Wally Jay's style of Jujitsu and closely resembles Japanese styles but it incorporates Wing Chun, Karate, Arnis, and pressure points to name a few. Best bet is to give it a try and see if it fits you.

Great school, Great people. Portland Small Circle Jujitsu teaches pretty much much everything. We learn Jujitsu, Judo, Karate, Wing Chun, and other styles of martial arts, all blended into a cohesive whole. the techniques we learn are practical and street ready. I love training there because the instructors are good teachers, but can have fun in class, it is a great workout, and I feel a lot more confident about defending myself in a real life situation.

Best Martial arts school in portland. This place teaches you everything you need to know about sport martial arts and applying it into real life situations. Here you learn a wide variety of stuff, ranging every where from sparing standing up to grappling on the ground. The idea of a 'melting pot' of moves and strikes helps you choose an individual style of fighting, so everyone there fights a little differently. The locks you learn are a great way of controlling someone without using punches or other violent strikes. Portland Jujitsu gives you the confidence you need for when your in fear of getting attacked, you'll know how to deal with the attacker using control and power.

The technique taught in class is very applicable to street defense and easy to retain. Unmatched instruction on technique for the beginner or well experienced martial artist. What is so great about this class is that all the students leave there egos at the door which promotes a healthy atmosphere to learn the many styles we train: jujitsu, judo, combat arnis, grappling, pressure points, and wing chun.‎

This is why I train here: I wanted a system that focused on practical, applied self defense, and allowed for personalization and creativity. I wanted to learn effective martial arts from day one. I wanted a system that didn't close options. I wanted to be a striker, a grappler, a thrower, and a ground fighter. I wanted real pressure points not mysticism and realistic weapon defense. There is no where else to learn small joint manipulation at this level. I don't want to be an MMA fighter, I don't want to go to a McDojo, I don't want to simply learn stale kata and forms. I've investigated several systems and other locations, I've met a number of fantastic martial artists who are great at what they do. This is where I've chosen to be for many years.
