I have to disagree with 'Anonymous' about some of the things said. First off, I was amazed at how quickly the instructors and students embraced me right off the bat. They not only made me feel welcome, they treated me like an old friend. Also, 'Pay for rank' is completely inaccurate and unfair. Students rank based on the instructors' observations about their progress. Each student has a personal curriculum and can track their progress. This school teaches not just forms and stances, but function. Focus is set on developing skills that can be applied in real-world applications. I love this Kwoon, and will continue to be a member for a long time.

I have had the unique privilege to train briefly with Si fu Smith, it was an amazing experience. And in his class he explains why he does not teach the whole system....to teach it to those who are not physically ready would be unethical and even dangerous. It is not that he will not teach it on the contrary he is more then happy to IF the student meets the physical and mental requirements that is necessary for the rest of the system. And as a student you are willing to work to achieve that goal you may learn it. It would be foolish to teach something that if a student is unprepared could cause great harm to the student. I shall be sighing up soon

The Sil Lum Kung Fu Club has been an awesome experience for me. The instructors are skilled in the art and dedicated to passing on their knowledge in a generous, and yet responsible, manner. Like any true martial art, it requires time and effort on the part of the student to advance. And, as is also often the case in the world of martial arts, there will always be detractors and those that have some personal grudge against a system, or a school, or even an individual. However, based on my time with at the Sil Lum with both Si Gung Smith and Si Fu Snyder, you will be hard pressed to find a more caring and dedicated school in the state.

I took from Bill Smith for 2 years and loved every second. They allowed you to train in the studio 5 out of the 7 days. The training is very hands on and is like having a personal trainer. It's traditional Kung Fu and so they don't cut corners anyone with the will and desire to train will go far. I now feel confident defending myself because in addition to traditional kung fu they teach ground fighting based off of Pedro Saures' teachings.

I have four words for you, it changed my life. That is how I feel when I look back on my years of training with the Sil Lum Kung fu Kwoon. I have learned so much while being apart of this martial arts school, not just about martial arts but about myself as well. I have also made many close friends that I wouldn't trade the world for, I would go to hell and back for them and I know they would do the same for me. When I first started training with Si Gung Bill Smith and Si Fu Damian Snyder I had no idea what I wanted to do with my future, this kung fu school taught not only martial arts but also service to the community. It was through this service and the examples of a few senior students that made me come to the conclusion that I wanted to serve the community as a career. I don't know where I would be without this school, all I know is that it profoundly changed my life and I will always be glad to have friends there who I consider to be a second family.
