Right from the first lesson I was hooked. I have been taking classes for around 6 months now and my Kung Fu is really starting to take off, especially now that I am in the Power Development program. It is absolutely fantastic training. You don't only learn how to defend yourself, but you learn to master your own body. Between this class and eating better I have already lost 40 LBS since I started. I have so much more energy and confidence in myself. I love the relaxed training environment, and all the other students are very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend the Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu Academy of Wisconsin to anyone and everyone that wants to better their life. It has now been over 2 years since I have enrolled and I am still hooked. I love Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu!

I have been going to this school for nearly 2 years, first in just the classes, then also in private lessons through the Instructor Training Program. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is serious about learning a martial art. First and foremost, the teacher, Sifu Angelo Foti is extremely dedicated to martial arts, not just as a fighting style but also as a way of life. This becomes very apparent when you see how much time, energy, thought and attention he gives to his practice of the art, to his school, to teaching, and to helping every one of his students become a better martial artist and a better person. Classes are fun and taught in a relaxed environment. The content of every lesson is always focused and practical. There is always an explanation as to why you are learning a particular technique or principle, and you can ask questions at any time (and this is encouraged.) Private lessons are extremely helpful and are individualized, geared towards your specific needs and goals; you will get farther a lot faster if you have the time and means to do so.
Having no experience in fighting and not knowing what to expect from a martial arts school, it took me a long time (years actually) to get up the courage to try one out. This school made me feel welcome, comfortable, and safe from the very first day on. I have never felt embarrassed or intimidated by any of the more experienced students, and all the students are there to learn, to help each other learn, and to have fun together in the meanwhile. In the nearly 2 years I have been going, there has not been one single class where I didn't leave feeling better, more energetic and more positive.

I always had an interest in taking a martial art class to learn some kind of self-defense as a woman. Doing some research on the net about the popular martial arts out there and considering the available schools around the Milwaukee area, I was leaning more toward BJJ as it seemed like it would fit the bill. HOWEVER this all changed one night while I was watching the TV show "Arrow" where I heard about wing chun for the first time ever. The character of Sara Lance (aka the Canary - a butt kicking assassin) was telling another female character that if she wanted to learn self defense she should study wing chun because it "uses an opponent's strength against them and it's ideal for small people like us." It felt like a light bulb lit up above my head! I got on my laptop right away and did some research on wing chun which eventually led to the Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu Academy of WI website. Considering my needs, the listed benefits of learning traditional wing chun and the programs at the school, I signed up for my first class (which is FREE by the way!). Seven months later, here I am to tell you about my experience as a current student at this academy: First: Sifu (Angelo Foti) is a most passionate, long-time, and continuous student of traditional wing chun and there is no better person to learn from than one who has a deep love for that which he teaches. The time and dedication he puts in the school (on top of having a full-time job) is inspiring and encouraging. His teachings are simple, but methodical and straight to the point. He is most willing to help out and answer any and all questions though he also leaves room for our own deductions so we can learn to develop an intuitive grasp on how we can go about applying our new found skills in real life situations. Classes are taught by practicing drills in pairs with other students after Sifu demonstrates and explains what we're learning that day. The drill is practiced for a week or sometimes more depending on the application as it is sometimes built upon. Most days there is also an additional conditioning class which is included in your tuition whether you are a part-time or full-time student to help build physical strength. Specialty programs and seminars are also offered. I am part of the Power Development Program (a 1 year program) which offers a little taste of all that traditional wing chun has to offer. I signed up for the program 2 months after I joined the school and I daresay I've made some progress I don't think I would have gotten by just attending the regular classes as it's sharpened my focus in understand traditional wing chun. The environment might seem intimidating at first since it's a martial art school (also for me since it was mostly guys there), but it's really more relaxed and everyone is willing to help each other out from the get go. On top of that there are daily doses of Sifu's never ending jokes (ever heard of the Greek inventor who created children's toys?) so no one takes themselves too seriously here either. Lastly, but most importantly, the principles of wing chun do not lie (and really are as the Canary said!). I think that's the one thing that has kept me as a student following this particular art. It's not fancy, it's not showy, it's efficiency at it's best with economical movements based upon a simple foundation anyone can easily learn. As far as wing chun meeting my needs, though I'm a work in progress I'm definitely learning to grow in confidence in my ability to defend myself should the need arise. So, if you're still reading this then you probably should sign up for your first free class (cause you DID read this far!) and come experience traditional wing chun with us because I could probably wax and wane a lot more on all the good things you'll get out of this. Just remember though that kung-fu = hardwork over time to develop a skill so come ready to train hard and keep training otherwise you might feel like traditional wing chun let you down and end missing out on a wonderful skill to have for life.
