Taekkyon is amazing! A one of a kind martial arts. Master Hong teaches the original style of Taekkyon without the influence of other systems of martial arts added into it (Other Orgs are known to add extra techniques from other systems). I have trained many styles of MA in the past. Master Hong is an incredible teacher. He is passionate, focused and patient. At his school Taekkyon can be approached in multiple ways. One is a slower paced, full body (Health Exercise) style of Taekkyon, reminiscent of Tai Chi. Another is the full system taught as a Martial Arts first, where applications and concept are drilled in from the beginning. Taekkyon is also taught as a fast paced impact exercise reminiscent of Kickboxing while utilizing Taekkyon techniques. All ways of learning eventually take you to the same place. Its just a matter of which approach is best for you and how far you want to take it. Master Hong focuses on the core principles of Taekkyon, teaching the skill needed to achieve proficiency step by step. Taekkyon is an intelligent, well thought out system where no movements are wasted. Every movement has a reason, and every reason furthers the concepts learned. This system is surprisingly efficient. Taekkyon also focuses on a healthy body by building strength without straining the joints along with active breathing techniques. This is a super cool and unique place to train! Also, you aren't going to find anything else like this in the entire US at this point! Wi Dae Taekkyon can only be found in Seoul Korea and La Crescenta, CA. Although Master Hong has a Korean accent, he always takes the time needed to make sure you understand what he is teaching. I really feel like I found a hidden gem.
