We were so excited when our son was accepted last year (Class of '21!) and we have been blessed every single day since. Loyola has some of the best teachers we have encountered in the L.A. area (we are Bay Area transplants), particularly and including Mrs. Arney. Like many boys, my son struggles with English grammar. Mrs. Arney is known as one of the best English teachers at Loyola, hands-down. We had several alumni boys tell us that they had the hardest time in her class, but that college English was a breeze because of her. Mrs. Arney is fair, unbiased and definitely not racist as someone previously posted. She is hard on everyone; she doesn't care who you are. And with good reason. Mrs. Arney has the boys' best interest at heart, and it takes a lot more work to be a hard teacher than an easy one. So, although my son still struggles with grammar and had a "D" his first semester, I wish he could have her again next year. She is a blessing! Make no mistake, Loyola is a rigorous school. Period. That is because Loyola is on a mission to mold boys into men, and that takes dedication and hard work. If you are looking for a school where everybody gets a trophy, everyone gets to play, and everyone gets an A, keep looking --- Loyola is not for you. But if you're like me, and you want your son to go to a school that teaches to the whole person, that is proudly Catholic and Jesuit, that gets that what really matters is become the best version of yourself so you can use your talent to help others, then you could no better than Loyola High School.

If I could give this school 0 stars it would be more accurate. This Institution is the worst institution I have ever seen for bullying! The teachers and staff bully the students, especially Mr. Caldwell, Mrs. Arney and the Dean of students Mr Aranelli. They humiliate the boys in class amongst their piers. They then punish the students with “JUG” (detention time) if they “roast” each other as they have learned from the teachers. The students practice what they themselves have been subjected to. There is a lot of animosity amongst the students because of the negativity of the teachers. Whatever happened to positive reinforcement? The teachers also curse at the students. Mr. Aranelli yelled my son’s name across the school yard and told him to get his “Ass” into JUG. Really? At a Catholic school? It is a very poor learning environment. My son carried a 3.5 GPA or higher his entire life. My son was not accustomed to being humiliated constantly by the people who were supposed to be teaching him to be a better person. He was yelled at for not knowing an answer in class, for not having his shirt tucked in etc. Finally, The last straw was when the English teacher, Mrs. Arney, told my son in front of his dad and I , “ I can look at you and tell you will NOT do well in my class! My son is African American. After this meeting I immediately asked my son’s counselor to remove my son from this “biased” teacher’s class. The counselor replied “No problem, we switch kids to different classes all the time!” Within the hour the counselor called me back and said “ I’m sorry, I was told to butt out!”. My son had to remain in that class and as predicted by Mrs. Arney, my son received a “D” in the first semester of English and a “C” in the second semester. At the same time He received an “A” in Algeba, a “B” in Physics and a “B” in Geometry. My son had never received a “C” in his life! We transferred schools and my son is back to having teachers who advocate for him instead of against him and he is back to his 3.5 GPA. I refused to let this school ruin my son’s career/life!

It took us a couple of years looking for a best fit high school for our son. We cannot be more thankful for finding LHS. Our son is now a senior, had already been accepted to three top nationally high ranked early action institutions (more to come) with substantial merit scholarships. Thank you LHS teachers for helping us in making our son successful in high school...and be the man he is for others!

Loyola closed access to Venice and Pico from Berendo st. Many students that live in this community are being blocked to access their local schools. Loyola only causes more traffic when they close Venice blvd between Vermont and Normandie due to their sports games. In addition, the community that surrounds the school have trouble looking for parking because of the limited space Loyola has left. Little by little Loyola is taking over the local community which is only causing problems.
