Part 1/2: I have been coming to the Natural Curly Hair Haven since August of 2020 when I had found the hair salon online. I was especially happy, it had been difficult finding a hair salon for the past 5+ years that I could trust with my hair because of an experience from another stylist. When I had seen that the owner of Natural Curly Hair Haven was Dixie, it was all the reassurance I needed, so I knew I had to schedule an appointment and come in to see her because I had first met Dixie at another salon where she had trimmed and styled my hair. She had done a wonderful job each time I had came in, she is also very knowledgeable about caring for curly hair, and overall personable when it came to having conversations during the appointments. I knew from then on I could trust her with my hair. I was saddened when she no longer worked at that salon where we had met and was not able to get her contacts.
From August 2020 until my most recent appointment, Wednesday July 6 , 2022, I had scheduled a handful of appointments with only Dixie and as expected I always left happy with how my hair looked at the end. Though the last appointment had me feeling a bit uncomfortable which was surprising since we had never been issues before and I came in on time, greeting with a good morning, and hair detangled and ready as I normally would.
When I think back, there was a comment she had made at the start regarding the scheduling of the appointment where I had initially selected the ‘Short/Medium Cut’ service because at the time I thought of my hair as medium length since it reached just above my armpits. She stated that my hair was in fact not “Short” which I quickly was apologetic about the mistake/misunderstanding on my part. I thought nothing of the comment when it was made and quickly brushed it off as it was a simple mistake and it is something that may have happened before with other clients because on website there is no description of what is defined as short, medium, or long. I also would like to mention I scheduled this appointment online for the first time and usually I would send her a quick message about scheduling the trim and wash n go. As the appointment continued we had a brief conversation where Dixie had asked about how I had been caring for hair since the appointment that was three months prior , and about what I was looking to do for this appointment (i.e. the usual trim and wash n go). Once the conversation had ended there was a bit of a silence while she was sectioning my hair and getting ready to begin the trim; again I thought nothing of it, but then she began intimate conversation with another client that was sitting in the waiting area for the duration of the trim which I thought was odd since at this time we are having a conversation of our own. When the trim was done I made a comment of how nice the trim looked and the shape then she asked me to head towards the hair washing area with her and on our way there she said, “Your hair feels clean” to which I respond with, “I had rinsed my hair a little” which I thought was an odd statement as well. The silence continued and I could begin to feel the uncomfortable feeling set it and there was a point where she had walked away when she had finished putting the conditioner in for about five minutes without even saying a word. For the remainder of the appointment I decided to remain quiet because I was unsure of what had been going on until it came time to pay for the service where I said thank you and left.
