Yesterday I had my second haircut here. I love it. My hair is wavy and most stylists do not know how to cut my hair so that the waves look natural. The stylists at Cala Renee are all trained to cut curly or wavy hair, and they participate in ongoing training in the Deva Curl methodology. And, everyone who works there has been courteous as well as professional.

I had a deva curl cut here a couple of weeks ago. My hair is dry, coarse and naturally curly and was finally growing long and forming ringlets from my first deva curl cut that I had at a salon in Danvers in November (I regret so bad not going back, but originally this is where it was recommended that I go, so I impulsively booked here this time, assuming I would look like a knockout after seeing pictures on their website). My hair was the longest it had ever been, but needed the ends cut, because they were damaged and split. Well, after my cut by Ashley, I ended up with one side that still had knots (!!) on the ends that I had to pull out myself and I trimmed some of the ends off myself. It still needs to be completely trimmed, because that side is longer than the other. Now I also have a really funky shape to it, because she went around my head with scissors, randomly snipping, when she was finished with the cut, making a helmet shape. (I wish that I had grabbed the scissors and stopped her!) These short ends that she snipped are all frizzed up now. My ringlets are gone, because she didn't cut the individual curls in a circular fashion, like the Danvers salon did for their deva curl cut (I assumed they were all a standard cutting style, but I guess that all of the stylist at Cala Renee are not certified deva curl stylists, only deva inspired stylists). Well, come to find out later, I have a curly hair friend who had her hair cut at Cala Renee and then immediately had it all cut off short after, because she hated it!! I've been growing for almost a year, so I'm going to wait until next month, until I can part with anoth $100 and see if I can get back into Danvers or see how expensive a Ouidad cut is. If not, I'll have to cut it short again. My friends didn't know what to say when they saw my hair, it looked so bad. Two days before my cut, someone had posted a picture of me and my long ringlets on Facebook and I got compliments and people used to randomly tell me that they loved my hair. 😢😢😢 I think that this salon is probably good for people with short curly hair. Steer clear if you are growing your hair long. If you want ringlets, go to the Danvers salon.
