I enjoyed coming here for a period of time, however the prices continued to go up and up. A once $50 haircut jumped to $75 without warning - and there was an additional $25 charge to have your hair blowdried after an expensive color or highlights..(which always perplexed me - and hadn't occurred anywhere else I had been)..I left a couple of times with wet hair to avoid this charge. The last straw occured when I came in to have highlights/lowlights, blow dry and a very simple trim. When I went to check out (my jaw hit the floor) to learn my bill was well over $200 !!?? I asked for a breakdown and discovered I had been charged $75 dollars for the trim !!##?! Mind you, my hair took all of 5 minutes to trim, it is shoulder length, not layered and extremely fine...
Rewind 2 months earlier - I had taken my stepdaughter to Shine for a haircut and style - with the same stylist, who spent over an hour cutting and styling her hair - (she has waist length course, very curly, thick hair) - and we were charged the same $75... Which I could understand - considering the time and work involved.
When it came to my hair however, I honestly felt as though I was being taken advantage of financially. I just couldn't believe that after I was already there paying $180 for highlights/lowlights/blowdry, - to then be hit with an additional $75 charge for a 5 minute trim was down right insulting...
I had been a long term customer, etremely loyal, brought my stepdaughter in, and referred other clients to them... Moreover, I'm sure throughout the time I patronized Shine - I easily dropped a few thousand dollars...I never really felt as though they showed any sort of appreciation..What they did do, was gouge me financially every chance they got...
Get this- My stepdaughter received a little thank you note in the mail from Shine after her visit - (which included several business cards she could pass out on their behalf) - I consider that pretty shameless self promotion and was turned off completely.. Are they that desperate for business they would think an 11 year old child would hand out business cards and drum up referrals???
At any rate, following this series of events, it was an easy decision to leave and search for a new stylist... I have found somebody that is absolutely amazing and charges exponentially less for the same exact services - Infact I think my hair is a lot healthier now...
I think a business goes wrong when they are not focused on their customers - and instead are focused on making a quick buck by way of overcharging and inflating costs..That's a good way to quickly alienate people... Personally I will be your customer for life if I am being treated right.. I tip well and I will spend a fair amount of money..I am the kind of customer that most businesses would feel blessed to have..Building repeat business is a marathon not a sprint... This takes a period of time and is earned through consistency, honesty, charging a fair price, appreciating your customers etc...Shine apparently needs a little 101 in this department.
