Please! If you are considering working with this company - DON'T!! You will live to regret it,...I promise. My financial situation with this company has been nothing short of hell. In my 42 years of life, I have had many loans, credit cards, four mortgages and this company has been, BY FAR, the worst financial institution I have ever dealt with. EVER!!! I was referred to this company after my husband I found ourselves in financial hardship. Six years ago, we had investments, two vehicles bought and paid for and a home bought and paid for. A lengthy court battle (for our children) changed all of that. We had to remortgage our home, sell our vehicles and start over from scratch. To pay off the other debt, we went to Alta West to take a loan out, against the value of our home. We were desperate and time was of the essence. Because we had $250,000 in equity in the house, they were all too happy to lend us $30,000. And so the fun began,... The "fees" for this transaction was short of $10,000 and the interest rate was insanely high (11.95). We were not happy about this but the company assured us that, if we made our payments on time, our rate would drop significantly in the next year. We were desperate and, because our credit score dropped so badly, we had nowhere else to go. We proceed. A year past and it came for renewal - phewww! We had not missed a single payment. Every single one was made on time! The renewal terms - 12.45 interest rate and a "renewal fee" of $1200. I lost my mind!!! I could not believe it. I immediately emailed my agent, who refused to return my emails and my phone calls. I called the general number and spoke with a different agent who, in not so many words said, "too bad; so sad." I went to every other banking institution but, because of the financial hardship we were in and the fact that my husband wasn't working, no one was willing to take us on. So we renewed. Today, I called them to discuss paying out my loan. Apparently, the renewal process included a mandatory "fixed term mortgage" agreement. This means they want a fee of three months worth of payments to payout our loan!!! Clearly a detail I missed when we renewed. I know you might be desperate. We were. But I promise you, you will regret ever dealing with this company. Their service is horrible. Their agents are rude and unresponsive once they get your money. And their rules and guidelines are unfair, unjust and frankly, should be illegal! My credit is improving. My home is about to sell. I will pay off this loan and spend the rest of my life writing reviews everywhere I can and telling every single person I know how horrible this company is.
