First off, I want to say that I am a HUGE fan of Brighton! I have so many beautiful pieces and cherish every single one. Whenever I have a birthday or holiday my family knows that they can't go wrong with a Brighton piece. If I need a gift to give, my first thought is always Brighton. I usually make my purchase at Main Street Design in Livermore because it is a small family owned business that I like to support and I am always treated with such respect and appreciation. I was looking for a charm bracelet that I wanted to give as a very special gift. Main Street Design had all but one charm that I wanted so the owner called the Brighton store at the Stoneridge mall and they had the charm I needed to complete my gift and would set it aside for me to pickup. I was supposed to pick it up on Sunday but was not able to. I called today to make sure they still had it and was put on hold for over 10 minutes, I thought maybe they forgot about me so I hung up and attempted to call back, my calls (4 of them) went unanswered until finally on my 5th attempt someone answered. I was told they were very busy and they were helping customers(the employee was clearly irritated that I called back) . The woman was very short with me and rude. I am a customer too, just because I am not there in front of them does not make me less of a customer than someone in person. The woman seemed to dislike me without even knowing me. I tried to be kind but couldn't help but get upset, although I was not rude but I was crying. What the Brighton employee doesn't know (and I wouldn't expect her to know) is that I was having a bad day...I recently lost my 21 year old daughter who was killed by a drunk driver while riding her bicycle home from the school library at CSU Chico where she was a nursing student. The charm bracelet I was buying was for the mother of a 1 year old baby that my daughter's liver was donated to when she died (my daughter was an organ donor and saved 5 lives with her gift of organ donation). My point is that you never know what someone may be going through and should always treat people with respect, kindness and dignity even if your not in the customer service business, it's just the right thing to do. This is why I support Main Street Design, because the owners put their heart and soul into the store and it shows. I am always greeted with a kindness that is genuine. I hope that this will be addressed and that employees will remember to treat everyone with kindness, even if that person isn't so kind....you just never know what difficulties that person may be facing. Sincerely, Sandra Chesterman
