I tool a consignment Movado watch I had purchased from J&L Jewelery years ago, in for a new battery. Usually a battery change takes 10-15 mins., but this time took more than 30 mins. When they brought my watch out, they had indicated that they had broken a screw on the back of the watch, and asked if I wanted to take the watch as is. I responded no, stating that I would rather have my watch back complete, as it was brought in. Upon receiving the watch, I went home happy as usual in dealing with J&L Jewelry. In putting the watch back in its case, I noticed a sharp edge on the sapphire crystal, that was not there before and immediately notified J&L of the issue. The following day, I took the watch back to J&L, who stated the watch would need to be sent out for repair and would take about a week; I responded, no problem. In receiving the watch today (2/22/18), I brought in my jewelers loop to examine the repair, but the lady told me the crystal has been replaced. In feeling the corner of issue, I could feel the same sharp edge from the chipped crystal and verified with my jewelers loop, it had indeed not been replaced as previously stated, with J&L Jewelry denying and taking the position of no responsibility, since I could not prove they chipped the crystal!!! For light repairs and battery replacement J&L is great, but if anything happens to go wrong where significant expense may be incured at their responsibility, EXPECT THEM TO HIDE BEHIND PLAUSIBLE DENIABILITY, AS THEY DID WITH ME! So sad this ended this way!!!

I went into this establishment to purchase a polishing cloth but was not greeted with a smile from the man who was going to help me. He seemed a bit reluctant to assist me in a friendly manner. Which was odd because he seemed very joyful helping the Caucasian individual before me. Was a quick simple transaction but will not return to due to possible racism.

On November 20, 2015 I brought a fashion watch to J&L to have the movement replaced with a new quartz movement. Today, February 18, 2016 (Almost 3 months to the day I dropped off the watch) I was called and told to pick up the watch at no charge due to the length of time we had to wait. Up until Tuesday when I called they did not even know I was still waiting for the watch. Several calls went UN-returned by the staff in January and February. When I spoke to the owner who brought me the watch I was told, "We lost the numbers on the face and could not replace them so we are not charging you for the repair." That was not what I was told on the phone. The owner went on to tell me that it is a cheap Chinese watch. That was the excuse for the damage they had done. No apology. No explanation. I was not happy with the presentation. When asked what I wanted for compensation I answered, "$500.00!" I was told that I was trying to rip them off and it was not going to happen. I was countered with, "We will go on the internet and find a similar watch but it will not look like this watch." It is a fashion watch, not a fancy Swiss Rolex, just a pretty watch that my wife loves. She would most likely not like a replacement watch and that was the idea behind having the movement changed to a quartz so she could further enjoy the watch. I was loud but never disrespectful. I was very disturbed at the calculated answer I received when they were well aware of the damage they did to the watch. It was criminal for them to behave in a callous and arrogant manner. Any company who does not own up and accept responsibility for the damage they have done are just ripping off their clients. It is disrespectful! I feel that I was bullied by someone who was 100% aware of the damage they did but not willing to make it right. The excuse used over and over again was, "It is a Chinese watch" Well congratulations on having a successful rip-off shop in Long Beach where you take advantage of the people you pretend to serve.

Bought a necklace there last year ...they swore up and down its real silver 100% not plated or some cheap materials. After 2 days, my neck turn red itchy red welts that would no even go down with steroid cream. I m allergic to cheap metals and that is why I asked the metal. They just lie so they make the sale. Now I don't but anything. Only thing I do is change battery or shortened the band on my watches. Don't buy anything or bring in anything nice to fix. You never know what's going to happen to it.
