In my quest to find the perfect engagement ring, I paid this store a visit (currently called Elite Fine Jewelry Inc. - and said to be changed again in the future by the owner Leann Hawley).
This establishment focuses more on custom jewellery and pieces and having looked at a couple they have done, they are gorgeous.
Like another of my previous review of being on the search for moissanites, I had discovered this store on the Moissanite website by Charles & Colvard that provides Certified moissanites for custom jewellery here in Edmonton. I had sent out an email to all local stores found on CharlesAndColvard website and this store was the only one who never replied. I used the email provided on there and it could just be outdated as I received Leann's business card when I was there and her email was different. Despite not receiving an email, I still visited the store because of reviews online and from their FB page.
They have a few beautiful pieces in store, but I think they're going through a moissanite boom currently from when I had visited a couple of weeks ago. Moissanite is a great ethical gemstone to purchase. However I feel because I had visited a prior Jewellery store with more experience and knowledge (in general and with moissanites), I wasn't swayed into the direction of buying moissanites any more even though I was still looking at them. I really adored a greenish-blue moissanite + diamond accented ring but it turned out to be $3300 which is actually around the same price as the Canadian diamond engagement ring I eventually purchased elsewhere. My fiancé inquired about getting his wedding band custom-made here and they estimated it would be around $800. The price of that is a tad outrageous, even though they said they priced per gram (as most local jewellery storse will), but we had asked that very same day at another goldsmith who also priced per gram for the exact same ring and more experience in this field as a business/goldsmith - they would charge us $500-$600. at the highest. $800 is the same price for a thicker ring at People's that we saw. The one thing I really appreciate is how all their pieces are officially appraised with paperwork so you can see how much it's really worth (for insurance purposes of course).
I have a lot of respect for Leann and her daughter (who was there at the time) and they made me feel comfortable and they're wonderful fun people. I love how open and willing they are about getting creative about custom designs. I feel they really want to make a unique piece for everyone. In my personal opinion I just didn't feel confident on getting a custom piece here despite the glowing reviews about them on FB/elsewhere. I feel if I were to get a custom piece from a jeweller that they would be confident and educate me on each and every step - the hows, when and why they would do something. Here I felt it was a lot of "we can do anything, do you want this, or this, or this?" but not really sounding so reassuring. I don't know how to quite explain that bit. But when I left, because of their help/input on getting a specific/unique ring - it eventually led me to go back to a ring I had fallen in love with elsewhere.
