CON ARTIST, STAY AWAY!!! Paradise Painting is a fraud. I too, along with many other people have filed a civil suit against him and won. The judge knows his name well. Sad though because we are out a few thousand dollars and had to pay someone else to do the work and had to purchase the materials. "Marty" Martin Bougus, "Owner" of. Paradise Painting was evicted from the last place the Sheriff went to and had a heck of a time serving a subpoena. He'll make promises for days but not carry any out... or just enough to give you hope.

Martin Bogus, the owner of this business, promises services and time-frames he doesn't deliver. He doesn't communicate with either the customer or his workers about when the work will be done, what needs to be done, colors to use, etc. I had used Paradise Painting twice for residences where time wasn't of the essence, and the job was completed successfully, despite his workers having to repaint one room because they had painted it the wrong color. My most recent experience with this business was to paint my office condo, which has clients M-F from 8 am until 8 pm. I arranged with Mr. Bogus to have the painters come on the weekend. They arrived on Friday night and Monday night, when clinicians and clients were in the office. They finally came on Saturday and Sunday and painted the offices. I was told that the work was done on Sunday afternoon, which I found hard to believe because they had left the 2 largest rooms for last. Nevertheless, I took him at his word and paid for the work without checking it myself. This was a BIG mistake. Mr. Bogus did say that if I found anything wrong to let him know and he would fix it. The next day I found that the trim around the baseboards and doors had been either not painted or painted in the wrong color. I called Mr. Bogus, who came to look at the problem and agreed that it had indeed been painted the wrong color. He complained that, although he could get more paint at no cost because the error in paint color must have been the fault of Sherwin-Williams, he would be out the cost of the labor. He would make no money on the job. I took this comment as a not-too-subtle hint that he wanted me to pay for his labor. Then he offered to paint the doors for $100. I didn't need or want the doors painted, so turned him down. He wanted to come back that night to do the painting, and I had to remind him that we work until 7:30 pm, so he would be unable to get to work until after that. I also informed him that I have a very allergic clinician who had a severe headache from the paint fumes and had even stayed home from work after 3 days of suffering with them. Consequently, I needed him to come back on Saturday and Sunday to repaint. He told me to leave the office open at 9 am on Saturday, no need to call him, and they would come then to paint, as that clinician would be away for the Christmas holiday until the following Friday. I left the office doors open both Saturday and Sunday, after several phone calls to Mr. Bogus with his promises to come at times he probably had no intention of meeting. He even called my husband to ask him to pick up the paint for him at Sherwin-Williams, which my husband refused to do! I think that he took my money, decided that it was too expensive for him to correct the problems, and instead of letting me know this, pretended that he was going to correct the problems in good faith. I have had no contact with Mr. Bogus, and the work has not been completed. I plan to take him to small claims court. Needless to say, I will never use this painter again.

I have not actually used this man's services but have a bit of knowledge about him. Some family members of mine bought his home almost two years ago. Since the closing, the sheriff's office has come by their house 4-5 times per year trying to serve him with different lawsuits for unfinished work and warrant for a court date for another issue. One very elderly couple actually came to the house after the sheriff was unable to serve because they were sure that whoever was at the home was covering for Martin Bougus (the owner of this business). Apparently, in their case, they paid him for a large job up front and he never showed up again and never returned any calls. So they called the police and eventually filed a civil action. For them it was a devastating financial loss. Martin Bougus and Paradise Painting continue to use his old address for business purposes, perhaps so the police and courts can't find him? Who knows. If you do hire him, don't pay him a penny until he is finished with the work. And read other reviews. If he tells you he's still at Fairway Drive, tell you know that he's not and demand a proof of address.
