Great all around experience! Highly recommend. No matter what level art skills you have attained, Jan-Willem will assist and encourage your further development. I hope to return for a week course.

This is my third trip to Shenandoah Art Destination. It was another great, creative weekend and nice retreat away from the city. The location is rustic and quite beautiful in the Fall. Jan is an excellent instructor who lets artists, of all levels, work at their own pace. I particularly liked the combination of group and individual instruction. It was so nice meeting other aspiring or established artists. Nancy treated us to another round of delicious meals and warm hospitality. Planning trip number four soon!

We had a wonderful experience at our art retreat last weekend--comfortable lodgings, private bath, good food and excellent instruction--I highly recommend this place for a girls' weekend, art exploration and meeting new people. Thank you Nancy and Jan.

Wonderful Art Retreat. Jan is an excellent art teacher. Nancy and Jan have great insight for developing pieces and very encouraging. Beautiful 19th century home with large studio space. Food was delicious.

Nancy and Jan were wonderful hosts, the houses and grounds were beautiful, but relaxed - almost like you were staying with old friends instead of at an art destination. Jan is a fantastic teacher, allowing and in fact urging you to express your own style, rather than merely copy his way of doing things, but at the same time providing on point critiques of your work and guiding you to improve based on what you told him you wanted to learn. I came away from the experience with a fresh take on approaching painting, a looser (slightly - I am still working on this) style and a new found joy in putting paint on canvas. I highly recommend Shenandoah to anyone who wants to create art in a beautiful relaxed environment and "geek out" with other people who enjoy experiencing and creating art - or just as a place to relax in the country amid the mountains and scenery of Lexington.
