We highly recommend Thunder Bay Resort if you are looking for a fun, relaxed beautiful carriage ride over the river and through the woods to view magnificent majestic Elk. The event ends with a gourmet 5 course meal cooked on wood stoves with wine tastings. The food is amazing. The cabin in the woods is beautiful, decorated with lots of antiques and mounts. Tastefully decorated restrooms are clean and like mini-museums themselves. The staff are all very friendly and aim to please. The staff are all well informed and happy to answer all your questions about their Belgian horses that pull the wagons, to the elk that roam their property. Can’t go in the fall when the elk are bugling? That's ok, Jack the owner is happy to imitate the call for you! We have been on this excursion in the fall, and winter, both beautiful times to go! We are looking forward to celebrating our wedding at the cabin this summer!! Can’t recommend this destination enough! Linda and Jame

We loved our horse-drawn carriage ride through the elk preserve. Absolutely beautiful as well as interesting and informative. The dinner in the log cabin was delicious. This is a great place to go with children and family, or as a couples retreat. Family-owned business.

Went on the elk viewing ride and meal. It was a very enjoyable event. All of the staff were very nice. The room we stayed in that night was nice. The only downside was the price seemed kind of high.

We went for a Murder Mystery weekend, and it was wonderful. A complete weekend of solving murder mysteries, horse drawn carriage ride to see Elk, and a delicious meal prepared in a large cabin in the woods. Would highly recommend this resort to anyone, especially if you haven't been there before.

My wife and I came for the Elk viewing sleigh ride and gourmet dinner, and in spite of picking the coldest day of the year, we had a great time! Apparently the snow base was not quite enough for the sleigh, so we did a carriage ride instead. Our host was very attentive and provided a wealth of information about the history of the resort and the elk preserve, and the dinner was spectacular. Lodging was adequate - nothing special, but roomy and comfortable. This is a nice gem between Gaylord and Alpena.
