My husband and I lived there for 9 months, and it was a very long nine months. Everything was fine and dandy the first month. When we moved in the manager was very kind and helpful, he told us that he was a minister, and was a Christian. Not that we based our decisions on this information, but it was nice to know. In October of 2016, we moved in, and it only got worse from there.
In November, we submitted a maintenance request due to there being a major draft in our patio door. We did not want this issue to get worse throughout the winter. Needless to say, we moved out in July, and nobody ever came to fix the door. I don't know if this was the managements call not to fix it or what, but it did not happen. I however, can't say enough good about Darius, the maintenance guy, he is fantastic!
One of the main reasons we moved into GolfView was the buildings were secure and required a key to get into the building. In December, the management had a company come in and do work on our balconies, this company broke the front door handle, and the door never did shut correctly from then until we moved out July. The door did not shut or lock anymore.
When the snow began to fly, the sidewalks or parking lots did not get shoveled or plowed in a timely manner. When I complained to the office about the untouched sidewalks, I was told I could help myself to one of the extra shovels, and could work on them if I wanted them cleared. So, my husband and I maintained the sidewalks in front of our building, so we had a clean path from our door, to our cars. If you want to do the winter yard work, then this is the place for you!
The interior appearance was really cute. We had new carpet installed before we moved in, and new laminate flooring installed in the kitchen, dining room, and bathroom. The closet space in was amazing. However, the kitchen was about the size of a tuna can! Two people can not work together in this kitchen. Also, due to the location of the refrigerator, you cannot open the drawers all the way.
The building had laundry facilities in the lower level, one washer and one dryer for six units. The dryers did not work properly, and required several times through the dryer to get them dry. At the cost of $1.25 to dry, that adds up quickly. And I am using the term dry, very loosely. Also, the machines in the building in the office had a lower price than that of our building. We asked for the dryers to be repaired, several times, and nothing was done about them. So, we took our laundry uptown to Total Clean Coin Laundry, they were fantastic, and the we dried all of our clothes (several loads) for much less than at GolfView.
In late May, we received notice that our lease was up on July 31st, which we knew, because we were counting down the days! The notice told us that our rent would be going up from $550 (our base rent was $500, and our dog rent was $50), to nearly $700, before adding in rent for our dog. We went to the office and discussed this major increase, and the "minister" manager became quite cocky and arrogant with us. It was then we decided that we would not be renew our lease.
When we moved out, we had the apartment much cleaner than it was when we moved in. According to our lease, they had 30 days to get our security deposit back to us. We moved out July 31st, and by September 1st, we still didnt have our deposit. After several calls, to unorganized people, we finally got the deposit back in late September. The check was dated for September 15th, so they had no intention of getting it to us within the 30 days.
Needless to say, if you are desperate, this place is great. However you can do better elsewhere!
