This course was in excellent shape in November. Greens were fast and smooth. Great day on the links. Some tight holes, and some open holes. Very well maintained!! Great views from the hilltops. Loved it.

Hickory Heights easily is one of leading public courses in Western PA. To the novice golfer, Hickory Heights may be challenging: out of bounds on both sides, longer rough lengths, and significant sand traps. However, the course is absolutely beautiful- especially in the fall. If you are able to control your shots effectively, this might become your favorite course. For beginner golfers, I would make sure you get your practice in before attempting the course. I recommend playing the back 9 first, as it generally is less challenging than the front nine. Play does get backed up at peak times, but the crowd generally is easier going than St Clair or Lindenwood. The greens are excellent- proper Kentucky Bentgrass, and unlike other courses in the area, the course stays watered season-round. The fairways are very soft. Lastly, the service here is phenomenal. The staff up at the clubhouse generally care for your needs, and it's a very nice culture. Not overly casual and not country club pretentious. Truly a great place to play for all levels. If you play 18- plan to have lunch at Sammy's Pin High Club. It's a fantastic overlook of the back nine and the level of food quality for a golf club is pretty solid. The one thing that was a downside is the convenience of the course. It was 90 the day that I played, and water was hard to come by. I understand that golf courses are going away with water coolers, but there definitely should be some ways to innovate. The beverage service is nice but definitely should come equipped with Square or some sort of card payment. Additionally, the cart software was pretty cumbersome. If you deviated from the path just slightly, you would have to reverse your way back at turtle pace. This course is very tough to be cart path only when you have to walk 30-40+ yards uphill to the other side. If drainage is the issue- I would definitely resolve it in time. I understand there will always be trouble spots, but seeing the entire hole draped off is a tough sight. Being able to drive up to at least some shots would have made the course an easier battle. I've been playing golf for 7+ years throughout Western PA and this remains my favorite course.

Excellent course with a variety of elevations. Club house and carts could use some upgrades.

Nice course, but.... GPS constantly reminded me to speed up play even though we were never more than 2 minutes behind. Geofencing seemed arbitrary with no physical indication where I could drive cart and where I couldn't. I had no choice but to find out the hard way when the alarm went off. Biggest problem: A 93F day and not a drop of water to drink on any of the 18 holes. Not safe.
