I have a Yamaha G9 golf cart that need a new ignition box and coil. I took it to AJ's and upon first impression seemed to be a great business. Everyone was very friendly and nice, I told them it was not a rush job but I would like it back in the two week period as I felt that was reasonable timing for parts to be delivered etc. As well as they appeared understaffed. They estimated my repairs to be around 200$ and told me they would call when it's done.
Fast forward to 3 weeks later and I still hadn't heard anything. Not a big deal but was surprised I hadn't heard back. So I tried calling, no answer, so I left a message with my name, my cart ,and a return phone number.
Fast forward again to 7 weeks later and still nothing. At this point I have called at least a dozen times and left 4-5 messages and nothing. This continues until a total of about 2-1/2 months go by and on one of my calls someone finally answers. I explain my situation and he apologizes, he says he remembered my cart and told me all the work was done and it was ready to be picked up. I asked what the total had come to and he said he had misplaced the paperwork but would call me back that same day or the next day once he found it with my total and a summary of the work done.
Now 3 months has gone by and I never heard back. Surprise there. (I live about an hour from their shop so just stopping by isn't exactly practical especially because I am very busy.) But I decide to head up there anyway with my trailer and just find out the rest of the info there since they said it was ready.
I show up and there is one person working at the time. They are unable to find my file but I was able to show them which cart was mine out of the ones parked outside in the rain. He then brings it inside and lone behold it was not finished. They still needed to install the Ignition box, the employee who was very friendly and helpful quickly installed the box and was ready. But since my paperwork was no where to be found he had to call his boss to find out what I owed. After speaking with the boss on the phone he says my total would be 505$!!! That is a little far from the original 200$ estimate. I was told the Ignition box is a 300$ part (although I was able to find an upgraded aftermarket parts for 150$ online). He told me his boss would be back in 15 min and I could wait to talk to him if I would like. I said yes.
After waiting the boss shows up and explains that it would be 505$ because they also did a service on the cart, as well as install a new battery, sparkplug as well as some other minor details. I explained to him I didn't want any of that done and if he has felt it was necessary he should have called me and asked if it was OK. He was very angry and rude and said the battery I had was bad and he wasn't able to test it without a new battery(I had never had issues with the battery prior and still do not) however I told him if he needed to test the battery fine but don't charge me for a 100$ battery without asking if it's alright to install first.
Overall they removed the Ignition box they installed as well as the battery and I left as I was not about to pay 500$ when I was estimated at 200$ I said I would do it myself. Overall if you are fine waiting a minimum of 3 or more months for your cart maybe this place is alright... I have heard of people waiting up to 6 months... also don't expect to be kept in the loop of for your estimate to be accurate. They are very disorganized and just a not well run business. I like supporting local business however this will not be on my list any further. Sorry for the length but I feel it really gives and accurate representation.
