This little spot is tucked away on an island in the Bow River on the north side of downtown Calgary. Parking is a little difficult, and you have to kind of navigate your way through the paths and bridges to get there. It is definitely worth the beautiful walk to this eclectic restaurant / Cafe. They have a very well-rounded menu, and Tier 1 service and trained staff. If you live in Calgary or are just visiting, put it on your bucket list so you can cross it off soon. It is a favorite at certain times of the year as they will have festive themed dinners such as turkey with all the trimmings at Thanksgiving and Christmas. You'll definitely need to reserve for times like this. Would recommend a reservation most times anyway.

Hyperbole aside, this place is one in....well.....a big number. I wanted to say one in a million but that may be a bit much. However this place is like no other in the city.....a restaurant on an island. I had the pleasure to go to a nighttime winter wedding there years ago and it was absolutely magical. Of course if you are not soon to be wed and want to savour some of the finest modern cuisine in Calgary, River Cafe is the place. As I recall there is a small enough menu so you don't get a headache perusing it at length but enough choices to please almost every palate. The food has always been magnificent. Dress casual as it has a rustic feel especially on the patio, but formal does the trick inside the "not too big" dining room. Take time to enjoy a cocktail of one of the local brews while you look out at the trees and river. It is the way eating a meal should be.

Amazing dining experience. Our server was very friendly and informative. We arrived late afternoon so it wasn't very busy and we got to sit near the fireplace. The place has a very relaxing atmosphere. It was raining out when we went, but I assume the view would be much better in the summertime as the restaurant is right in front of the river. Food was delicious. Good for a quick bite or just to hang out.

Absolutely amazing! Every time I have visited Calgary, I have always wondered about River Cafe. This long weekend we decided to give it a try. After our experience I wonder why I haven’t tried it any sooner! Impeccable service and food. I DEFINITELY recommend!! Try out the Red Pepper Hummus. It’s delicious.

A wonderful meal experience. Valentine's Day with the significant other consisted of a masterfully and thoughtfully prepared six course meal that left us both stuffed and wowed. Service and pacing were both spot on. A wonderful experience for anyone looking to explore some of Calgary's culinary best, and who are willing to brave the walk in the cold into the park to get there! Or just go in the summer and don't worry about it!
