FINALLY a place in Nanaimo where you can dress up and be served like a king!!! Excellent for those very special occasions. We went Valentine's Day; a time nortorious at restaurants for rushed service and sub par fare. This was neither, the experience was sublime. We had no less than 4 friendly waiters serving our every need. The atmosohere is warm and cozy. And the meal!! We had the Valentine special, paired with hand picked wines. Every course was perfection. I cannot say enough about this lovely place. It's not cheap, but worth EVERY dime.

My husband, father-in-law and I stayed at the Grand Hotel in Nanaimo, and decided to eat at their restaurant, because they liked the look of the menu and we were tired and didn't want to go out. I am vegan, but can almost always get a lovely baked potato and steamed veggies in any nice restaurant. NOT here! I asked our server, and he said they could not steam any veggies, that they were all sauteed, and that baked potato was not an option. I asked if they could be sauteed in oil and not butter, and he said no!!!!! They only use butter. ???? He said they could be boiled. So I said fine. I asked for any type of potato then..even boiled along with the veggies. He brought the vegetables, but no potato and said they couldn't do it. It was ridiculous, frustrating, and I was starving at the end of the meal. I certainly don't expect vegan entrees on most menus, but in a "fine dining" setting, I do expect some ability (and willingness!!!!!!) to make a couple of simple changes. One important thing to note is that the dining room was 80% empty! It's not like they were scrambling to feed hundreds of people!

Popped in for lunch and had the place to myself. I think it is only so quiet because it's not very obvious it is there. The food was great, from scratch soup. Good service. Looks like a beautiful patio setting, but it is still lovely indoors when it is raining as it was on my visit. Prices are fair for what you get.

Lovely decor with prompt courteous service. Food is consistent, tasty and made with fresh ingredients. Specials were interesting with a broad and compatible range of flavours. Prices reasonable.
