Surprised my fiance for our 5 year anniversary, and flew in from Ontario this morning, and on a whim made this our first stop for breakfast. The atmosphere was very cozy, and the staff were super friendly and welcoming, and the waitress tenative and very polite. The in house coffee was on point, and so was what I'm assuming is farm to table eggs and bacon. Not to mention the in house sour dough, which I'm definitely leaving with a loaf of. 100% worth making your way to this extremely well run establishment.

If you come here only for the bread it is well worth it. On top of that is a great little cafe and bar with a simple but really well executed menu and a views into the kitchen on the lower level. Highly recommend.

Stopped in for a cold beer. The menu looked good and the brunch seems like it would be a winner. The beer was cold and delicious of course but it was the service that was a cut above. My wife and I have been trying to buy a Rolling Rock pint glass for years and no pub ever wants to sell us one. When I asked the bartender at EM she went into the back to ask the manager... Came back and said no problem... Didn't even ask for money !!! That kind of customer service is what will bring me back to a place time after time. Guess where I'll be enjoying a cold beer next time I'm around Hammonds Plains.

Not what I was expecting. Food was so delicious. I ordered the cajun chicken sandwich. It was the juiciest, most flavorful sandwich I've ever had. Kettle chips are fresh and add a nice touch to the meal. Staff here are also very friendly. Pleasant atmosphere. I will definitely go back again when I come back to NS.

My friend and I popped into Edible Matters a couple of days ago because we're true fans of their bakery selections. We picked our goods, and waited for the two women ahead of us to pay for their bill as well as say fond farewells until next year.Sigh, how touching as we waited. Hugs over with, it was our turn.I had bread, my friend, rolls. The server then turned to us and said she had to go and would send someone - dashed away and disappeared down the steps to the kitchen. My friend went to the washroom and I waited and waited for someone to wait on me as the server had promised. No one showed.I tried to catch the eye of one of the other servers- no luck. Finally, exasperated, I coralled one.My friend arrived back from the washroom. "Haven't you been served yet? ". The new server seemed frazzled and couldn't at first realize that we were paying separately. We got that straightened out. Then I gave her a Visa Gift Card- total confusion- she tried some way to make it work- couldn't. Then she said that she'd get the manager." Here she comes" she said but the manager ignored her . At last she caught her eye and she came behind the counter., And then proceeded to give the staffer a lesson in how to process a Visa Gift Card. In retrospect, I probably could have eaten most of the loaf of bread in the time it took to buy it. My advice after running my own business for 23 years- train your staff, and also get them to constantly look around the restaurant to be aware of exactly what is going on so that patrons will be noticed , especially those ones who are trying to catch a waitstaff's eye. My time is important- you won't get another chance to waste it
