I took my daughter here last summer when we sat in the back garden and enjoyed a fabulous meal with exceptional service. We returned in April and had another beautiful meal and felt appreciated and valued by the server. I want to eat through the whole menu. So hard to choose because everything is so good.

It is not easy to post an honest feedback when it is a local business. The service was great. But the food items needs a lot to improve. The Shrimp dish is served the way that shrimps are in very tasty sauce but with the tail on. The meat I had was tough to cut while off the bone it was under cooked to less than "blue". I can't help it, to have a comment that I felt it was microwaved to quickly taw the frozen meat portion, to continue with next cooking procedure. I must say here, that the server understood my concern and removed the item from my bill. That being said, and over all, for the prices including overpriced low end wine. I would expect a tablecloth on each table. Tabletop be larger than the two square feet, and the tables being spread around the restaurant the way that one can comfortably walk without disturbing other dinners.

A Not so special birthday. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday because he wanted to take me to what we heard was the "Best Restaurant in Kingston". He had made reservations and when we arrived, on time, we were told our table would not be ready for 15 minutes. We were told there was no room at the bar for us to wait, so we should go next door to their sister restaurant and wait there, without an apology. The hostess didn't act like she cared at all about us or our patronage. Pretty bad start. When we went over to Atomica we had to wait as well (but that not Le Chien's fault). We were at the other restaurant for 30 minutes so we called Le Chien to ensure our table would be ready. The hostess said that our table was still not ready and would be another 15 minutes. After 45 minutes of waiting at the restaurant next door (even though we had a reservation) we finally walked into the Le Chien and got seated. The hostess basically just pointed to our table, she didn't walk us over or make any sort of effort to make us feel comfortable. The front of restaurant was freezing from the door opening and closing often so we asked to switch to a table further inside. (this was in the winter). We were seated at a makeshift table in the middle of the restaurant a four seat table even though there were many empty 2 person booths with better ambiance. Our server came over he asked if we wanted anything to drink and as my boyfriend was speaking, the server walked away in the middle of the sentence... I could go on and now. Overall the food was fine, the drinks were alright but the service was horrendous and made what was supposed to be a special night not fun at all. We were ready and willing to spend a few hundred dollars here but this was an awful start and we will never go back there. Another note, I yelped this review a few months ago and the restaurants owners have never commented or gave any apologies. Very bad PR.

We visited Le Chien Noir on Saturday night for a birthday celebration. The service was just ok; our server sat us with only one drink menu for a table of six and was gone so long we had to get up to find more menus ourselves. One of us asked for a “fruity” cocktail to start and she came back with a sour, which was watered down and not frothy enough. In fact, all of the drinks we had were inconsistent: throughout the evening we ordered three cosmopolitans, each arriving a different shade of red and tasting different. Three of another kind of cocktail and the same thing happened, some were sweeter than others and different hues. I ordered a 250ml of wine and the carafe it came in indicated it wasn’t filled to the line, which I wouldn’t have minded so much had it not been $20. I didn’t bother flagging the waitress as again, she was gone too long. The food was the same, the table ordered two burgers and they came out on two different buns. I don’t think it’s a big deal (they were delicious!) I just find it odd that there were so many inconsistencies throughout the evening. Our experience wasn’t horrible but i don’t understand why Le Chien Noir is so highly rated.

I enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff was great. I would say it is very expensive, and my girlfriend did not find many vegetarian options. The one vegetarian dish they do offer was bland. That said my food was great, and more vegetarian options would be appreciated by all.
