Normally, I’m pretty forgiving of the odd little thing when rating a restaurant. It’s hard to be perfect, but with a place like 1789, you expect the number of things to forgive to be very short. The table beside us had one server per dish, and we had one server for the table. One of our courses was brought before the previous removed. One server whispered to the point I had to move closer to him to hear. Little things one their own, but not what’s to be expected for a what should be a well planned chefs tasting menu at a well-established location. The ambiance lovely, if chilly (unlit fire five feet from the table;) the main server was kind and attentive, if a little too enamored by past celebrity guests. As to the food, as Ruth Reichl said once, when it was discovered who she was, “... I was fascinated to note that the raspberries on the new desserts were three times the size of those on the old ones.”

I brought my boyfriend here while in town visiting for his Birthday Dinner. 1789 far exceeded my expectations. It was a very classy and upscale environment. The food was delicious and our server was exceptional. My only complaint is the unprofessionalism of the hostesses, they seemed very confused. But that did not affect our experience and I would recommend this to anyone in the area!

Amazing experience. The food, atmosphere, and staff were all magnificent. Loved the historical architecture of the building, as well as the staff's knowledge of the building's history.

Came here for anniversary dinner. 1789 truly puts the 'fine' in dining. Attention to detail was impressive with flavorful dishes. Tried venison here and half of it was over cooked but still enjoyable. Halibut was delicious. Nice ambiance.

MAKE A RESERVATION this upscale restaurant is very popular with the local Georgetowners. Not to mention, the bar has limited seating so call ahead or better yet make a reservation! Solo-diners are welcome! Seating at the bar is very limited so best to call ahead. You won't be sorry :)
