One of my co-workers recommended this place to me. Aside from the now very over priced Ritz Caribbean at Yonge & Eglinton, there aren't any options to satisfy my jerk/oxtail craving in my neighborhood. I wasn't expecting anything upscale, but I think the basics is not too much to ask when I'm shelling out $40 to feed 3 people. Things started out badly right away when we walked in & the place had an odd scent. Not stinky or anything, but you could tell it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned in awhile. And like so many of my peoples' restaurants the customer service was non existent. No greeting. They looked at me like an alien when I started asking questions about the "red sauce", and half & half options. I still went ahead & ordered though, my group was getting hangry. The food looked good as they were dishing it out, but then I noticed the coleslaw sitting outside ( not in a refrigerated holder or anything) and the girl using the same utensil used for my chicken to serve coleslaw. I was turned off completely & tempted to just walk out. But I'm too nice for that, so I said thank you, and left a $4 tip. In terms of flavor there was something about the oxtail that made us all nauseated. The jerk chicken was decent but not spicy at all & a little burnt. My favorite part of the meal was the fried chicken. I was told to get red sauce on everything by my friend, but I only put it on my coleslaw. I regret doing that. By the time we got home & opened the coleslaw it looked nasty. I drained a lot of the liquid before serving it. There are lots of similar restaurants in the Eglinton West area, so I won't be going back to Mainshas. If you insist on trying it for yourself, get fried chicken & coleslaw, no red sauce.

No quirks with this place. Excellent service and food. Might be a little congested but didn’t bother me.

It's cash only but there is an atm machine inside of the restaurant. Rice & bean is oddly bit too sweet but they still serve a decent food for decent price. Not worth traveling for but worth stop by for quick decent dinner if you are around the neighborhood. It's a local takeout restaurant so sometimes there are interesting ppl chilling in the restaurant. Will highly recommend to do takeout than eating in the restaurant.

Mainsha used to be the go to place but it's really taken a turn for the worse. The goat had literally two pieces of tiny meat and the rest was bone. The red sauce seems to taste different then I recall, but at least the fried chicken tasted good. Not sure if I will ever go back.

Extremely fair price for great food and decent portions.
