I came here specifically to see if there was a review surrounding my experience and there is, from W W just 19 hours ago. First, here's my take on the place: Authentic NY Italian fare. Excellent tomato sauce. Good! Our waiter looked hung over, like he was falling apart. He was nice, but the joint loses a star for it. The guy who seemed to be in charge is authentic New York City. Had I not married into such family I'd have been put off by him, as I see many people are in the reviews of the place. In context I found him likable, although I would suggest toning it down a bit for those who aren't accustomed to it. Now, here's what happened with W W from another perspective. We were sitting there enjoying our lunch when W started moving one of those big umbrellas around trying to get shade at the table she had chosen. In doing so she disturbed our lunch and that of the neighboring table as she essentially needed us to move our umbrellas so she could put hers where she wanted it to be. The owner (or manager) came out, stopped her, and said, "I have 40 tables with shade and you want to sit at the one that's in the sun. I'm not going to rearrange my restaurant for you." To be fair, anywhere but NYC that's pretty darned rude. W should have said something along the lines of, "Hey. Look at this beautiful skin. You want me to get cancer?" Pretty sure he would have smiled and she would have been accommodated. Instead she started hollering at the man from the street, apparently in disbelief that he has a business at all. He said, "I've been here 40 long and painful years." I was laughing inside. So, W W has a leg to stand on. The guy needs to be mindful that he's not in NYC. W was being selfish and disrespectful to the rest of us and, despite his tactics, I appreciate the manager standing up for us. So, if you want an authentic NYC Italian restaurant experience in Scottsdale, Italian Grotto is worth a try. If you haven't got the stones for it, go eat somewhere else ya bum.

We were very excited to find a restaurant that was available but but once we got there we were not so sure. Our group was 4 kids and 2 adults when we got there the host GAVE OUR TABLE AWAY..... to older people?!!!! So we waited hoping he would seat us somwere else however just a few moments later the same host came our drunk and screaming at a costumer saying that he was bald and gross. Then we very politely asked if our table was ready and HE TOLD US TO LEAVE. I’m sure the food was good but don’t get your hopes up because you might get kicked out.

My long time favorite in Scottsdale. Great food and service. Men’s restroom has always needed help and likely not changing. Great staff, owner Gary is cordial and sometimes entertaining. Go there, you will enjoy it.

Went here with my friends to celebrate New year's Eve. Personally, I found the food mediocre and pricey. The salad seemed like the kind one gets of the shelve. The staff didn't seem too excited to have us there. Part of the reason might have been me being dressed too casually. My friends did say that they liked cosmopolitans there. It also does have a nice dark ambiance with oldie music that doesn't overpower the conversation. Given the old Town location, this might be the place to bring the date over when you are done exploring on foot.

The food is terrific. Mussels Portofino are fabulous (all the food is). Service is terrific. The owner has accommodated our group every time we visit (one in a wheel chair). We will eat there during 'Spring Training ' every year.
