I got the Roast beef with cheddar on Dutch crunch. That's my go to at all delis. This place is up there if not the best sandwich. The restaurant itself looks like it can use an update, but that adds to its charm.

The food is delicious, vibrant and tastes fresh. I'd recommend their bow tie pasta salad, it's just amazing. They have plenty of other great options and I left feeling full and satisfied.

GODDAMN, this place is good. Seriously. Yum. I'm not going to say that it's the best deli in the East Bay or anything, but it's easily the best deli in the cultural wasteland of suburban blandness that is Contra Costa County. Anyway, this place kicks ass. It's a very solid Italian-style deli with a great selection of cheeses, meats, pasta salads, seafood salads, etc. , a decent, though small, selection of imported foods (olive oils, olives, pastas, ladyfingers), and a mind-blowingly wonderful (though occasionally heavy) list of specialty sandwiches named after opera singers. My personal favorite is the Mario Lanza, chicken salad with garlic mayo, sprouts, and bacon, but they're all very, very good. I'd also recommend the hot pastrami with provolone on sweet roll . . . gooey and piping hot and delicious. To finish it all off, grab a container of their absolutely stellar bread pudding, or maybe a few containers of various salads, grab your favored member of the appropriate sex, and go have a picnic. This place is well worth the drive from Benicia, even factoring in gas and bridge toll. Their only real flaw is that there tends to be a lunchtime rush, so you can wait a bit, and there isn't much seating. Still, overall, that's pretty minor when compared to the cavalcade of deliciousness that Luigi's represents.
