I went for the experience. Lily Tomlin's character, Frankie, on the Netflix show Grace & Frankie, is always talking about wanting to go to Del Taco. I may have made the mistake of simply going to the wrong one during my short trip to CA. There were a dozen within a few miles of my hotel. I wasn't a huge fan. Like many fast food restaurants the pictures were better than the reality. It did have fresh features, such as fresh lime wedges and avocado slices. But at the end of the day it was still pretty typical fast food fare. And the strawberry lemonade was downright disgusting, I threw it out. There are apparently some really good things on the menu but I didn't have the time or rhe inclination to mine through to find them. With all the more authentic taco spots around, I'm sad I wasted a meal there.

Got an email for a free taco. Yahoo. Carefully read the coupon and it says "Print or Present this coupon". AND it says only valid at this location. Got it. Arrived at Del Taco only to be told, "Sorry, you have to print the coupon." How do you make your own rules? Bad policy. Bad customer service.

Great place for a quick bite. $ menu . But I walk in . The drive thru takes to long for a quick item. If I have the time to eat in, I will. The food is fresh & hot. The fries crispy and free refills. Who who who !

The taco predates the arrival of the Spanish in Mexico. There is anthropological evidence that the indigenous people living in the lake region of the Valley of Mexico traditionally ate tacos filled with small fish. Writing at the time of the Spanish conquistadors, Bernal Díaz del Castillo documented the first taco feast enjoyed by Europeans, a meal which Hernán Cortés arranged for his captains in Coyoacán. Beginning from the early part of the twentieth century, various types of tacos have become popular in the United States and Canada.[14] An early appearance of a description of the taco in the United States in English was in a 1914 cookbook, California Mexican-Spanish Cookbook, by Bertha Haffner Ginger.[15] The most common type of taco in the US is the hard-shell, U-shaped version, first described in a cookbook, The good life: New Mexican food, authored by Fabiola Cabeza de Baca Gilbert and published in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 1949.[16] These types are sold by restaurants and by fast food chains, while kits are readily available in most supermarkets. Even non-Mexican oriented fast food restaurants have sold tacos. Mass production of this type of taco was encouraged by the invention of devices to hold the tortillas in the U-shape as they were deep-fried. A patent for such a device was issued to New York restaurateur Juvencio Maldonado in 1950, based on his patent filing of 1947 (U.S. Patent No. 2,506,305).[17][18] Such tacos are crisp-fried corn tortillas filled with seasoned ground beef, cheese, lettuce, and sometimes tomato, onion, salsa, sour cream, and avocado or guacamole.[19]
