Not horrible, not great. Was disappointed with the service for starters-- Didn't get any refills on drinks, even though the cups are pretty small and filled with ice so you only get a good three to four sips before your empty, so I literally sat throughout eating my lunch without having anything to drink. I was appalled at that. Ordered the chicken enchilada thinking the portion would be a decent size, but it was rather small so we still left feeling hungry. The food was bland which I was surprised about, considering everyone on here raves about how great this place is.. One thing I always look forward to when going to a Mexican restaurant is having fresh salsa and fresh tortilla chips, however our chips were extremely hardened and just seemed stale... I was pretty disappointed that we drove 18 minutes to try this restaurant, when we could have just went right downstairs from our place to Solitas Tacos & Margaritas. But we wanted to try someplace new for us, that had good ratings. Unfortunately trying something different was a waste of $35 & the 18 minute drive there and the 20 minute drive back. Wouldn't recommend to friends, family, or strangers for that matter.

I've been a patron here since the 80's and there has never been an issue. The salsa, food, service and cocktails are off the hook. Beware of food comas👍Big floor plan great atmosphere. I can't rate the other Avila's however I would expect similar experience although the beach communities are smaller from out front. I'm staying with the Costa Mesa location for life. Well done El Ranchito Easter lunch today was a flawless execution.

Hello, I hope you're making this a great day! I have been eating at Avila's El Ranchito for 18 years now. I love the fact that they make their corn tortillas like my grandmother; their food and service is really good as well. I have never been disappointed with any of their dishes or service. However, I think some of their margaritas are a little pricey but they are good. Enjoy the rest of this beautiful day.

Came from John Wayne Airport from the East Coast. My friend and I were starving... Saw this restaurant on our drive to the hotel and thought - yes, Mexican. Avila's didn't disappoint! Prompt friendly service, lots of chips and delicious salsa. We both did the combo lunch. I had a soft chicken taco and pork enchilada. Warm, tasty and flavored just right. The rice and beans on the side were perfect. We left full and happy! Highly recommended

Great service. Fresh made warm corn tortillas are set on your table along with home made tortilla chips before you order. The dishes are generous and delicious. They are celebrating 50 years of business.
