How did it take so long for me to finally eat here? Our large party was treated to a great meal on a Friday night. All of the dishes looked and smelled amazing and went well with the wines we selected. Service was comfortable and attentive and the staff pulled off ten dinners at a time without a hitch. Hope to make this fine restaurant a part of the regular rotation.

Nice ambiance small cafe, reminds me of the Lanes in Brighton England. Food was acceptable but not great. Missing that something special. A little on the slow side but company was good so not noticed as much. Menu on the smaller side. California Cuisine with moderate size portions. Would be great in the spring or summer evenings.

We have dined at Mustard Seed almost every time we've visited Davis -- about 6 times a year over the past two-plus decades. We have NEVER had a mediocre meal, and most have been 3.5-to-4-star experiences. In this small, warm and tasteful indoor/outdoor (your choice) venue, Steve & Lynn Kwong continue to provide carefully-tested inventiveness in their treatment of such classics as tomato bisque, crab cakes, duck, lamb chops, scallops, spinach salads, and dessert fruit tarts. That thoughtful inventiveness is what keeps Mustard Seed in the 4-star category. A strong wine list complements the entrees, many of which have, wisely, anchored the menu for years. Last night's seasoned lamb chops with a magical zinfandel sauce, crisp herbed-potato croquette and fat-n'-happy, medium-cooked asparagus were spectacularly good -- a clean 5-star entry! The Gundlach Bundschau 2012 Merlot was a great match. Mustard Seed is Davis' best, and amongst the finest dining opportunities in the California Central Valley.

Lovely service and very good food. A bit quiet, so no loud groups to mar the ambiance. Much more consistent and professional with the new owners so it's always a pleasure to dine here.

I have no idea why this place has a 3.8 average rating. The food here is always excellent. The tomato bisque with the puff pastry is one of my favorite dishes ANYWHERE. Try it out. You will not be disappointed.
