I would have given a 4 star. Staff was pleasant. Atmosphere was beautiful. But we sat in the bar area for happy hour specials on appetizers and drinks and got full price. We had a large group and didn't catch it until later that night. We paid with a company credit card and called to get some sort of apology and refund but we were told we would have to call at a later date and time to speak to someone who can help. It's been more than a week and still no refund. Really disappointed with the outcome. We thought this was going to be a regular place to entertain out of town business guests. Not going to until this is taken care of.

I love Poseidon!! Delicious food and a gorgeous sunset view on the beach- what's not to like? I came here for my birthday with my boyfriend and it was an amazing dining experience! The service was impeccable, our server was very attentive and had great suggestions for each course. We sat on the patio outside and you're practically right one the beach. Amazing view of the sunset- Definitely make a reservation for dinner during sunset if you can. I love that Poseidon is a family run restaurant and I really enjoyed reading the framed newspaper articles about the original owner hanging by the front door. It truly is an amazing story about a Greek immigrant finding success in America. Read it if you have the chance! As for our food... it was all delicious, I really really enjoyed the crab cakes appetizer! Big chunks of fresh crab yum!! The lobster bisque was rich and creamy, velvety-smooth and super flavorful. Yum! I had ahi for dinner and it was perfect - delicious rich meaty flavor and a buttery texture. Needless to say I was stuffed after this one. I had a Moscow nuke to drink and it was delicious.

This is second time in less than 3 months I have been to the Poseidon Restaurant. Once, again the service was poor. We waited for at least 10 minutes before someone came to offer us any kind of service. This last time was my birthday. I did not want to make a scene because my dear friend wanted to treat me for my birthday. However, I did let manager know he did a poor job of assisting his servers when they became extremely busy. I observed him being more concerned with certain patrons. My friend is African American. I felt slighted! Is this what my friend has felt for years? .... it is wrong!! The manager did offer to take care of the bill but my friend had already paid the bill. And, I did not want to embarrass her. I cannot remember my server's name but she was fabulous!!! My point is please respect all of your patrons regardless of what race they are. And, by the way I am a Native American!

Very nice atmosphere out on the patio, especially at sunset. Beautiful setting, attentive and polite staff, varied menu with something for everyone. Many apps to choose from, extensive wine list, wonderful entree selections. Go ahead and valet your car as well! Its only $6, so it easily beats trying to find street parking in Del Mar.

Food was outstanding. Service was friendly but scripted. Casual Fine dining should maintain an air of sophistication and still feel inviting. This restaurant leans more toward fine dining in that aspect. The view was amazing and the restaurant is beautiful. Valet is $6. Reservation are to be made 2hrs in advance but walk in is not discouraged.
