I LOVE this place! First, the food is delicious and there are GOOD options for vegetarians and vegans! The food ranges from nutrient dense and fresh foods to soul-warming comfort foods. I've have both ends of the spectrum and both were good! Second, the staff are great! They know the menu and make excellent recommendations for what you want, need, or are feeling. Third, there are so many spaces for you to nestle into, whether you are meeting friends, or just want to eat some great food while working on your own. The "upper level" is smaller, brighter, and has the hustle and bustle of people coming and going. The lower level is more spacious with less traffic going through. The patio is large and beautiful. Personally, I've met with friends and worked on things myself outside and in the downstairs area. Regardless of where in the restaurant you settle into, the ambiance is great and you feel the good vibes all around. This is one of my favorite places to be in the SD area! I would highly recommend Flower Child!

NOT IMPRESSED! Being local Solana Beach residents my wife and I watched with interest for many months as this new eatery was being built. We looked them up on Google and saw that they promote a healthy oriented menu in an upscale environment. We dropped by about 1pm today to see if it was not too busy so we might try something for lunch. It certainly was busy but we decided the wait shouldn't be too long if the kitchen has its act together. My wife wanted to try the Mac & Cheese which at $4 for a small serve was not enough so she got 2 serves. I liked the sound of the Madras Curry which was all vegetables for a bit over 10 bucks but would be bumped up considerably if I added a protein such as chicken, steak, salmon or tofu...as much as $7 extra for the salmon so I stuck with the veggie Madras. We also wanted a couple of lattes...I asked the girl whose coffee beans do they use and after leaving to find out she came back and said Ethiopia...okay but I was looking for a roaster's name such as Caffe Calabria or Lofty's.We ordered 2 non-fat milk lattes....no porcelain to have there cups just take out cups.We took our number to a bench top community table nearby...we were upstairs near the front entrance. My wife wasn't very confident we would get our orders anytime soon but I reminded her that this busy period is when they should be at their best otherwise they are in the wrong business. Our lattes arrived first...very quickly and looking under dressed in their 50 cent McCafe paper cups. The female diner beside us said gee...they look cheap and nasty paper cups. Our meals were ferried out soon after so we had all of our lunch order in a little over 5 minutes after sitting at our table...very impressive. My Madras veggie curry looked okay but my wife's Mac & Cheese looked like a blob in her dish I thought. We sugared our lattes and tasted them and I am certain that the cappuccinos we made at home early this morning tasted twice as good...no flavor at all .....might be the skim milk which is not the same as non-fat milk but then if you put a coffee in a cheap paper cup then the flavor will be affected for sure. They certainly weren't double shots so for 4 bucks each that's very disappointing. My wife had one word for her Mac & Cheese...... boring! I thought the flavor of my Madras Curry was pretty authentic but a bit on the pricy side for the serve vs the price of over $10.The ambience of the place was more like a fast food cafeteria than what I would call an upscale restaurant which is how they promote themselves.I don't think Urban Plates and Naked Cafe have too much to worry about .....they are just as healthy and less expensive than here. After we left Flower Child my wife and I chatted to a friend who runs a business virtually next door and we mentioned we had just dined here...one of his customers asked.....would we go back again? .....and after a second our answer was no.

I love this place, the food is delicious, has a feeling of freshness. I have tried several dishes from their menu: the Vietnamese Crunch, Spicy Japanese Eggplant, all the wraps, you are never disappointed! Try their kambucha from the tap.
