Fun dinner - a couple of misses but a whole load of hits. I loved the canapes in the beginning - great way to start. Punchy flavors. Loved the cheesy puree with caviar, the grains and mussels, and slow poached egg yolk in some kind of volute -- fantastic. The bread service came just before the final 2 protein courses; beautiful crusty bread and really really cultured butter. The fish and lamb course were both really strong dishes, wonderfully cooked. And to close off, I loved their sun choke, sesame desert. Ambiance wise, the room oscillated from cold to hot with the ventilation system blowing air onto the pretty much all the tables on the kitchen side. Also with the noise level in the room it was often hard to hear what was being served. But a fantastic experience all in all.

I came here for my birthday and was not disappointed! Food here was impressive and delicious. The service was top notch. I did the beverage pairing with my meal (it wasn't a wine pairing because it wasn't always wine!), and I really enjoyed how the drink paired nicely with the food. I would definitely come back here for a special occasion.

Visited for the kick-off of a late honeymoon. Near perfect across the board. Excellent food, outstanding service, exceeded our expectations and worth every penny. We opted into the beverage pairing and were so pleased that we did. We anticipated that the pairings would click, but were especially pleased with the diversity and imagination that went into the drink selections. What a treat. Huge thanks to the entire team for a wonderful meal!

The wife and I always go for a nice dinner somewhere for a birthday. This year we went to Commis for her birthday. I can't say enough good things about this place. The atmosphere was nice; not too loud, lighting was good, minimal decor in a tasteful style. Wife got a cocktail at the bar before dinner that she loved and the bartender was very helpful and personable with me despite the fact that I didn't order a drink. Dinner reservations were very prompt and we were seating almost on the minute of our reservation. The food was fantastic. Normally in a nine course menu there will be 1-2 courses that one of us just doesn't enjoy. Our dinner here consisted of 9 (+4 "extras") courses that were all excellent. There was a single course that neither of us liked as a complete dish, but all of the components were done very well and were delicious; they didn't go as an ensemble well, though. If I had to pick a weak point it would be the dessert courses. The main dessert was nice and all but certainly not in my top 10 desserts, although the use of sunflower seed butter was surprisingly delicious. The candies at the very end of the meal were too heavily herbed to enjoy more than a single small piece. Service was outstanding and probably one of the top 3 I've experienced. I can't speak about wine pairings because I don't drink much; the wife and I split half a bottle of white wine over the entire dinner. If you have the money to spend here it's a wonderful treat and well worth it. If you don't...well, there are many other wonderful spots to visit.

superb, casual atmosphere with elegant presentation, delicious food and appropriately contrasting and complementary tastes. Up there with my favorites in the Bay Area -- Benu, Aquerello, Atelier Crenn -- yet more affordable and less fussy. Bonus: They went out of their way to accommodate my wife's food allergies and make her dinner as stellar as their regular menu.
