This place is terrible. Mind you that it was a busy Saturday night the day I went. The layout was really cool. They had a lot of tempeniaki tables & cooks all around. As for my experience, we were told to go up stairs where we were introduced to dirty tables & that they still had drinks & plates from the previous customers sitting out. The water tasted terrible. The service wasn't the greatest either. I asked for some sauce to go with my sushi when we first got there and I never got it. By the time we had finished our food, the server asked if I need my sauce still & I responded sarcastically because I was obviously upset. The only thing keeping me from giving this place a one star is the fact that the sushi was really, really good!! Dragon roll was something out of this world! I would say go to this location at your own discretion.

I just had lunch at this establishment today. It was my first time eating at Benihana and I had heard good things from those I was going with. I made a reservation for 12:30—lunch time—in the morning. When we arrived they were not ready to seat us and we waited with two small children for 10 minutes. Once seated we proceeded to wait 1 hour before our chef came out. In the meantime it took 20 minutes for the soup, drinks, and salad. The manager came out and spoke to use but condescendingly said “he would take off 25% from the bill.” When we asked if we could get a free dessert the waiter was almost aghast and gave us attitude. Overall, this was a terrible first experience. I understand maybe there were personnel problems leading to a late lunch, but the attitude of the employees and the manager were unacceptable.

We came to the Santa Monica location for Easter today and we were very disappointed... our reservation was for 11:30 and we weren’t seated until 12pm. They claimed they didn’t have enough servers. The hosts wanted us to sit at a table that already had 5 people waiting... it’s 4 of us and there were only 3 seats available. We were finally seated and waited another 10 minutes. As we came to the table we were handed a very limited “red” menu with all the specialty dishes priced at $27 and up. They don’t give anyone the regular menu “Black book” which allows you to order from a lunch menu at prices starting at $15. As we sat, we noticed no one was given the multi option prices menu. This is their way of making sure everyone orders “specialty” dishes at over $27. This is very disappointing!!! We have also been to the Benihana in Newport Beach several times, and the service and food taste doesn’t compare. Santa Monica is lacking flavor and people skills. Shame on you for pushing higher prices on your clients!

Good food, good show and the kids love it! It's your typical Benihana, just located a few blocks from the beach and the promenade in Santa Monica. My personal favorite is the Spash n Meadow entree with a extra side of sauteed shrimp...yumm!
