This was our first time going to the cafe and it was not an enjoyable or pleasant experience; we were not greeted at all. We stood there for ten minutes without even a good morning. My family will not be going back, clearly they only serve a certain clientele.

"New England" clam chowder was runny NOT creamy. When I complained she tried to tell me the rest of New England was wrong in the way they make it and that they are just trying to mask the flavor of the clams... I sent it back without eating more than the one spoonful and although I didn't ask for a refund they still charged me for the soup. NEVER AGAIN!

Consistent sandwiches/salads, easy take out, and delicious weekly dinners.

Steve had to return the rental car before noon today (Saturday morning) and we talked about getting a bit of breakfast. We arrived home late last night from a week long trip to Pittsburgh and needed to restock groceries. I checked YELP for reviews of another local place he suggested but I was not impressed. I was surprised to see that a new place was open in the Groton airport! I like the location and I did like the previous restaurant (The Beacon) so we thought this would be worth a try. I was craving an omelette and I was disappointed that the breakfast service ended at 11...I missed my omelette by mere minutes! Steve was craving a Bloody Mary, but Cafe 511 does not serve hard liquor...just beer and wine. No worries...we had mimosas! I was worried that there was not much for me on the lunch menu but HELLO...GLUTEN FREE New England clam chowder (as well as RI clam chowder) and any sandwich available on GF bread. Woo hoo! I ordered a bowl of NE chowder. It was delicious...I prefer this thinner chowder not a lumpy, pasty mess and this was just right. I wish there were more potatoes but...here's a hint: order the house made potato chips and crumble them into the broth. Waaaaaay better than saltines! I have not had NE chowder in ages. This was very pleasing. Steve had the El Cubano panini and he found it very tasty. It came with the house made chips. He loved them. They are crisp and thin...perfectly salted. You won't find anything like these anywhere else in the New London area. They will soon be open for dinner service Wednesday thru Friday until 8. Sunday brunch is offered until noon. I am excited to try the corned beef hash cakes during Sunday brunch and their dinner offerings! I look forward to many delicious days here in the future.
