Food was enjoyable and came quickly. The diner is cute but grungy. Met with an owner for a short period. Wearing a flannel shirt. She was very grumpy towards other guests in the diner and had little emotional connection to her property. When I think of a diner I think of a warm invoting family oriented environment. The energy given by the staff showed that those principles were instilled within them but not in the owner. She has a wonderful staff and could use to learn a thing or two from them about hospitality. When leaving two servers both acknowledged me and as I tried to say goodbye to the owner I was just given a dark stare and her back turned to Me. I recommend giving this place a shot but realize the energy may very depending upon staff given the general displeasure of the owner at all times.

Food was ok, but service, not so much. Our waitress was Laura F. We stopped in at Shorty's Diner after the Trailing of the Sheep Festival in Ketchum. We parked on the side and when we came in the side door and started to go up front to get a table, two employee's were standing by the lunch counter. They both looked at us and one said "how many?' and the other said in a very blah tone, "You can sit anywhere." So, we headed for a table and the second waitress followed us and plopped the menus in a pile on the middle of the table and then walked off. Then, she came back and said, "Can I get you some drinks?". When I said, "I think we all want water." she turned, without saying a word and got the water. The glasses were fairly small and this was the last time we got water. It started getting busy after about 10 minutes. We got our food from another waitress and after 20 or so minutes, our originally waitress came back, took plates and left the check. She never asked if we wanted anything else or asked us how our food was or anything. Her attitude was very sour and after we paid, we left, and no one thanked us for coming or acknowledged we were leaving. When you charge $10 for a hamburger and french fries, your customers should at least get friendly, courteous service; because there are other less expensive restaurants and they do not have to choose yours.
