I was part of a party of 8. The gal that waited on us was super. 😀 The place was very busy but she really hustled to make sure we got everything we needed. Sorry I can't remember her name but she said she had been working at Denny's for over 17 years. I believe she might have even been in management. She stepped up and deserved the generous tip we gave her. The food was just as great here as any other Denny's. This place deserves the 5 stars I gave it.

We had coffee & breakfast meals which were good. Yet, our waitress kept disappearing & we actually had to go find a waiter for coffee refills. They were all sitting at the counter chatting about personal stuff while we had to nearly refill our own cups. Better service at other restaurants. :-(

When we went in, there were only about 4 tables of about 2-3 people each. So it was not busy at all. We waited to be seated about 5 minutes. After our order was placed, we waited and waited and waited. In the meantime about 4-5 other tables of people came in. And somehow everyone that came in after us we're getting their meals before us. After waiting for about 45 minutes we noticed it looked like our order was sitting waiting to be served to us,but had not been done yet. It sat for probably 10 minutes, before we finally said something to another waitress. After we received our food the manager came over to say sorry, but did not offer to do anything else about it. Our waitress only came to our table to take our order, bring the food then bring the bill. Only when we were done did she ask us for refills, which we did want because our drinks were empty. This is the fourth time we have been to this Denny's, and 3 out of 4 have been bad experiences. Don't imagine we will every be back to this Denny's again. By the way, all the other Denny's we have been to have had excellent service. Thanks but no thanks Mattoon Denny's.

Went in for lunch today with my daughter, mother, and grandmother while my mom had a short break for work across the street at the Mattoon armory. We were seated and ordered our food and drinks, as usual. Waitress didn't bring my mom's coffee out after she asked 3x, she half-filled our fruit cups and we had to ask for it done correctly. 40 minutes after ordering, we were still sitting wothout our food and my mom without her coffee. People seated after us got their food before us while we were ignored. We left $ on the table to cover our fruit bowls and drinks and left because my mom was out of time for her lunch break. I am disappointed in the service and lack of attentiveness our waitress displayed. Even more disappointed because my mom had to go without eating due to them taking 40 minutes. Not the right way to treat someone in uniform. Will not return.

I was so excited when I found out that Mattoon was getting a Denny's. I have really enjoyed going to Denny's in the surrounding towns for years. Unfortunately this Denny's has proven to be a huge disappointment over and over again. The food is OK at best. The staff lack customer service. First time we were thee we waited over 20 minutes to get our drink order. They were busy and new so it happens. After we got just our drinks it took another 30 minutes to get our food order, but we figured the food would be worth the wait. .OVER 30 minutes later and our waitress rushing past telling us that our food would be ready soon...... When all we wanted was the bill for the drinks so we could leave because we were tired of waiting. We finally got our food. For our totally unreasonable wait the manager gave us our one mango smoothie for free. we paid for everything else. A lot of the staff do NOT even know what they have. I've argued with many waitresses that "yes you do have whipped butter, ask the manager " after I've been told they don't have real butter. ( They really do have it.) No one could even tell me anything about the Denny's app, they had no clue if it was like other places where you can put money one it and then pay with the app. Staff always seems to act tired, stressed or to busy to be friendly. They are there to do a job and that is it. we have only had great service one time and that was when they were short staffed and one of the cooks came and took our order. He was very nice and gave great service. So great service one time out of 8 visits. But some people don't mind being treated that way . They do have some gluten free options and I do like how their menu is designed so you know what is gluten free and how many calories things are. They just really lack in staff knowing things and greatly lack in customer service. My daughter and her husband have experienced the same type of things when they have visited there as well. Wish I could say more positive things about this Denny's. Hopefully things will get better there.
