We moved here from Joliet, IL last year and really missed the bbq from there, so it was nice to eat at McCormick's Smokehouse. My husband and I both got the Sampler Platter which, as you might guess, had a sampling of pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket and ribs. The meat was good. I wasn't blown away, but it was the best I've had so far in Springfield. I wasn't impressed with the baked potato because it tasted like it had been cooked a long time or reheated. The side salad was crisp and fresh, and the dressing seemed homemade (which is a plus to me). The best thing was the baked potato soup, and it was my husband's! Next time, I'll definitely get the fish or a hot sandwich with soup!

I had high hopes but that was quickly dashed. I'm trying various places in Springfield to find the best rueben and I figured I'd try this place. I had ordered the grilled rueben on marbled rye with a side of fries. They asked me if I wanted sauerkraut and Thousand Island on it and I said yes to both. They really threw me for a curve ball when they ask me if I wanted a hard plastic cup for dining in or a foam take home cup. With my order placed, I found a tabled and waited. When I got my food, the first thing that I noticed was how big the sandwich was and enough fries to choke a horse. The sandwich was incredibly crispy which I'm really not a fan of. I immediately noticed how there was no Thousand Island and that pretty much ruined the sandwich. I ended up leaving half the fries since there was too much. The worst part of it all is that it cost me $14. I'd be willing to try it again as long as the rueben has Thousand Island on it and I'll order a bag of chips instead of fries.

Food was good place was clean. It's a little pricey for our lunch. $30 for two adults and one child.

McCormick’s Smokehouse is an OK place to eat. I have to say, the food was quite tasty, you might even say delicious, but I could not bring myself to be impressed by them. McCormick’s feels like a mix of Dickeys and Chik Fil-A; you order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. The establishment itself does not give a fast food vibe at all though, which is nice, but that is essentially what this place is. For my lunch, I had their sampler platter, which consisted of pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket, and ribs with a side of the broccoli and cheese soup with sweet potato waffle fries. The meat was just on this side of dry, but still good. I liked the taste of the ribs, but they did not fall off the bone. The chicken was flavored wonderfully. The brisket was probably the best of the meats. Everything tasted great, but was not spectacular. With their various meats, they also offer several sauces, a tangy house BBQ, sweet honey BBQ, and their gold fever BBQ. I have to say, the tangy house sauce did not speak to me and their sweet honey sauce was OK, but the gold fever sauce was the best of the three, which wasn’t amazing though, so, take that as you may. I did not dislike my experience here, but I do not see myself going back.
