Small, intimate, but casual restaurant with the best fresh seafood I have ever tasted. The lobster roll was fantastic and the super seafood chowder was overflowing with shrimp, fish and lobster. The fried calamari was amazing! The city feels more like a town. It was my first time ever visiting Maine and I'm already itching to go back!

This restaurant balances great chowder with a relaxed New England atmosphere. Our server was quick and attentive. I got the clam chowder bread bowl and it was amazing, big pieces of clam and potato with just the right amount of cream. Paired with a blueberry ale. Perfection. The rumors are true, Gilbert's is the king of clam chowder in Portland,ME.

Gilbert's Chowder House is the epitome of the local New England seafood restaurant. Not fancy, but incredibly delicious. The lobster roll must have had 4 claws in there and the fried clams were spilling off the plate. They had a variety of chowders (clam, lobster, seafood, etc.) and was excellent. Wonderful service and good choice of beers on tap. I would definitely recommend and I would go back.

Great seafood, Food is Always prepared after you place your order, Not to mention they give you a lot for your money. I highly recommend this place. Only down fall is that their parking lot is very small and it's hard to find a spot on the street. Overall great place to eat, takeout.

I felt the seafood was great but the lobster roll really could use some seasoning. I know you don't want to cover the flavor of the lobster but it was really one dimensional. Great service though. And they don't skimp on the drinks
