It is a fancy looking little up scale American restaurant. The environment is good inside. I have been here few times but definitely the best experience is to eat the lunch plates ( as they say ‘ blue plate’). My first experience of dinner here was awe fully bad ! I had to eat something bad, after paying a lot of money ! However, in my next visit I got better impression though. Since then, I usually visit for lunch, where you get to eat good food in 10$. Also, usually their ingredients are fresh. Make sure to check their blue plate menu or the day ( available online) before you go. I love the fried catfish.

What a fun treat to visit Starkville, Mississippi and find this great restaurant so close to the University. Delicious menu with many local choices and lively bar with live music. The southern appetizers of crab were a delicious start to our dinner. With a great wine list.

We have tried The Veranda on several occasions and have never been overjoyed with the food. The service has always been good and the atmosphere is great but the food is not worth the price. I have no issue with paying for a meal that when you leave your thoughts are wow that was great. However, out of the 4-5 times we have been to The Veranda the bill is always 60-120 depending on lunch or dinner for our family of 3. This price is not bad at all for quality food that is enjoyed by everyone but each of our visits a fast food meal would have been just as satisfying at a third of the price. I claim each time we have tried this restaurant I will not be back but after last night I definitely will never go back.

This was during a busy Sunday brunch time. So take all this as you will. The service was slow and sporadic. We had 3 different wait staff at different times handle some different aspect of our table (taking drinks, taking orders, refills, etc.) Even so, we still had to catch a random waitress more than once to get my wife and I a refill as our team of waitstaff would became non-existent. The rest of my group (8) all got their plates 10-15 minutes after we did, and not one got all of the correct sides they had ordered. The food was phenomenal, though. I had the fried chicken. They gave good portions and it was cooked perfectly. But the wait staff definitely needs work... I would go back, just not during a busy time of the week.

I tried to order the crab cake Benedict. I asked if I could get the egg cooked medium instead of poached. I was told that was not possible. They were simply too busy to do that so I had to order something different. I ordered the Veranda pasta as did the two other guests with me. When the plates came out, all three were completely different portion sizes. Needless to say we were all quite dissatisfied.
