While I was sceptical based on some of the reviews, my wife and I were coming through town and hungry for tacos of any kind other than typical fast food but didn't want to sit for long, so we gave it a shot. I can say that while the more negative reviews are correct, this is not really authentic, they don't account that it's tasty comfort food and the prices are reasonable considering the huge portions. A couple could easily share a dinner portion or even a lunch portion. And the soppas are fresh and delicious.

Always good food. The poor waiter in the Backdoor Lounge could've used another staff member to help. We were there at 6:30pm. He did good multi-tasking but was working his tail off!!

I’ll be as positive as I can be. The dining area was clean. The menu is limited. It was the first time I have ever had “self serve” chips and salsa. Not a fan. The food was just not my style, and really, not worth the price.

As a first timer seated ourselves in the backroom dining area, and waited a while for someone to come over. At this place you are supposed to get your own chips and dip at the nacho bar, which is different. The bar had nacho cheese but no self serving utensils...our entrees were lacking and unimaginative. Most entrees are covered in Enchalada sauce, and garnished with way too much lettuce. It is hard to distingush differences between menu items. When food came it was not really hot. Not a fan of this place, it could have been worse but not a style of Mexican food I can get behind. Overpriced for what you get. On the plus side service was not awful, but the staff seemed to be overworked dispite the fact that there were only a few others dining at the time.

Ricardo's is one of the sense memory places! I moved away from Norfolk 25 years ago and have been back 6 or 7 times since I moved away. Everytime I go back I have to eat at Ricardo's! And amazingly after all these years........it tastes exactly how I expect it to taste and just like it did 25 years ago and its what I am craving when I go there! It isn't the best Mexican food or authentic Mexican food (I moved to Phx so I know what that is!)......but it is Ricardo's and everytime I go I enjoy it very much!
