This is the real barbeque but in New Jersey, not the south. I had the BBQ taste sampler and it was delicious.. I also got an extra 1/2 lb of their mouth watering brisket. Atmosphere is upbeat, servers polite and the number & variation of beer! Will definitely return.

This is not only the best BBQ I've had in NJ so far, but some of the best BBQ I've had in the country. To be clear, this isn't the whole hog variety that you will find in the southeast (even tho they do a stellar job with pork ribs and pulled pork), but more of a take on Texas BBQ which focuses on brisket. What makes surf, and their mentor Hometown BBQ in NYC, unique is their blending of cultures. The pastrami rib is a perfect example of that fusion and could quite possibly be one of the best dishes I've ever tasted. For those of you that complain about the meat being fatty, that is a sign of the proper smoking time and temperature. It is also freaking delicious. My only suggestion of what I would like to see happen would be for them to go toward primal eating by using grass fed, local beef. Other than that, this place is a true gem.

Really great BBQ. I especially enjoyed the baked beans, which used a variety of beans. My brisket made me understand what people mean when they say that a meat "melts in your mouth." We also had a pepper appetizer that was outrageously good. Great place for drinks or to bring the family. Nice, spacious, and clean with good food and good service.

I enjoyed a delicious meal of shishito peppers, mac and cheese, and pastrami short rib. The Kentucky Lemonade was tasty too and no flavor, including the alcohol, was too strong, which I like. I like the picnic bench seating and just read they have dog freindly outside seating, so the pup and I will be visiting together when the weather is better.

im not sure what the people ate to be giving such high praise. The food is just ok. Portions are small and not comparable to say jersey BBQ in Belmar or Big Eds in old bridge. Coleslaw was a big fail. The pulled pork reminded me of boiled down pork shoulder soaked in watered down apple juice. The ribs look to be trimmed down so the rib meat trimmings could be used on other items. if you want to be seen hanging out in Rumson go to barnacle bills. If you want BBQ go to Belmar or Old bridge.
