Growing up it was a tradition to stop here for breakfast on our way from Boise to Portland. We returned this weekend for the first time in a decade and while it was nostalgic, the restaurant has room for improvement. The carpeting and booths are a little greasy and worn and just look dirty; the restaurant could do with a face lift. However, while the ambiance is lacking, the food was delicious. Our server was really fantastic and was on top of drink refills, dishes, etc. We came in on a Sunday morning and were in and out within 40 minutes- I like that fast service! The prices seemed really high- $15 for a country fried steak! The bathroom was very dingy and could use a really good scrub- or a remodel. The menu is small. It looks like had we been in for lunch or dinner, the beer selection is superb. It’s a fun place especially if you have kids, but not the kind of place you’ll long to go back to.

My family used to always stop here on road trips for a nice meal to stretch our legs. They have good food, and a fun atmosphere. There is a model train set that has tracks running throughout the entire restaurant! Fun! However, on our arrival there for dinner on our latest trip, we were heartbroken to discover that Sumpter Junction is in trouble! The sign read 'closed' and when I asked a local, she replied they're out of money, and close at 3pm every day now. Please give big tips! Let's put this historic travel icon back on the map!!

For half a decade, my family stopped here every year just before christmas on our annual trek from the Washington coast to almost the very Eastern edge of Colorado, and every time this was my favorite part of the trip. I stopped in a few years back on my way to Arizona, and the food certainly lived up to the nostalgia! This restaurant is a must-see, packed full of history and things to look at. The coffee is even good enough that when I had my first cup ever here at the tender age of eight, my yet-caffeine-independent self downed two whole cups over one breakfast. Next time I'm in town, you can bet I'll be stopping in.

Hands down my favorite breakfast I've had in a long time. Chicken fried bacon was unreal. Pineapple bacon omelet was a huge surprise of perfectly matched flavors and my wife's corned beef eggs Benedict was delicious! I HIGHLY recommend this stop.

Very good food with very good service. Toy train runs through restaurant keeps kids entertained. Great static train displays too.
