This place isn't cheap, but it's as close to a genuine rural French dining experience as you can get without going to France. The menu is limited, and ever changing, due to availability of ingredients, but that means what you get is guaranteed to be fresh and local. The drinks list is very impressive as well, including liqueurs I'd never even heard of before. I was highly amused by the fact that the bathroom has been wallpapered with a Petit Larousse Illustré (the most common one-volume encyclopedia in France) but don't get too caught up reading it, because it is the only bathroom.

Had dinner at Thistel on Thursday night. It was fantastic. One of the best meals we have had in the past three years when we moved to this area. The server helped to find a wine we would like since we are unfamiliar with Oregon wines. She hit the nail on the head. It was exactly what we were hoping for.The appetizers are quite large, the main courses are smaller, but just right . We could have split one appetizer amoung us if we had kown. The desserts were "Oh - so good". and just the right size. Well worth the money. thank you for a very pleasant experience.

This place was 'Sideways' and 'Portlandia' all in one - loved it! Had gnocchi with foraged stinging nettle pesto and a Pinot noir from down the road. Cozy vibe; friendly service.

Wonderful dinner! We had the gnocchi and the rockfish. Gnocchi was truly some of the best I’ve ever had. My wife and mom had the rockfish, quick seared and then baked. Exquisite! Thistle is a bit pricey, but as locals we can say truly some of the best food in this area... and there is some really good food in this area! Bartender makes is on top of his game, too, and makes great recommendations. Owner Emily and her band of four other merry-makers and gourmands there have it dialed in. Give it a go. You’ll be glad you did!
