Small semi-secret basement bar in downtown Columbia. My wife and I went there late one evening. They serve food late and it was actually pretty dang good! Lots of cool stuff on the walls and you can tell the place is old. It’s under the abc studios and across the street from the state house. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a late night dive!

Nice little hole-in-the-wall, but with some charm and a decent menu. Great beer selection, and the music's not overpowering. Cool place to meet friends for a drink & conversation. Not a lot of seating, so popular promotion days could be challenging. Also, prepare to walk a block or two. Parking can also be tough to find nearby.

As I end my long night, stopping by one more bar to get a bite to eat. I walk in, grab a chair, converse with the regulars and order Pimento Cheese Fries and a beer. As I began to take my food to a table and scarf it down, while drinking beer from a local brewery I start to think. Damn, Columbia is an awesome place! This is the perfect bar to just getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city and just relax with good beer and good food in a lowkey location. It’s almost a secret rendezvous spot for locals. Highly recommend.

The Whig is my favorite bar in Columbia. Excellent bar food, full of cheeses, meats, and grains you need to recover from alcohol's effects. Liquor selection is small, but great, only missing Patrón, from my recollection. Plus, the prices are usually under $10 for a drink, unless if you go for top shelf, which is still less than $15 per shot, excluding scotch. Beer is good for my tastes (dark and foreign), and the IPA crowd. Prices are between $4-$10 for a beer, there might be a few that are more expensive, but I don't go to be a beer connoisseur. Last, ambience in this place is amazing. Always full of interesting looking people, willing to discuss politics, business, and subcultures of America. I've met old friends here, shared stories, and drank a few good ones. Furthermore, this bar follows the law, unlike some bars in other portions of the city, admitting patrons only of legal age. Visit this place when you want to experience a reputable dive bar.

A great find and worth the trip down the stairs. Don't let the appearance full you. Some of the best food and sandwiches around. And the prices can't be beat
