This restaurant is very unique. It is definitely one of the better restaurants in town- if not the best. When I visited they were very busy with a huge crowd from a major running event in the area. And they managed to serve me reasonably quickly even considering the crowd. I was impressed.

I've always had yummy food here! The portions are HUGE and always cooked perfectly by some really nice folks! This is where you want to get a perfectly grilled ribeye for sure! Bacon wrapped shrimp is unbelievable, too, it seriously melts in your mouth! Desserts are outta this world!! Yeah, time to break out the leftovers... :) Oh yeah, waitstaff kicks butt!!

If the Running M were in a larger city, I would rate it lower. However, considering it is in Gonzales, and our dining choices are extremely limited, it's an alright place to grab a meal. I wish I could give it 3.5 starts. Four feels too high, but three feels too low. It's directly on the square, making it convenient if you are visiting downtown for CATI or just checking out the history of Gonzales. Inside it feels like a great little joint in a small Texas town. I've had their chicken fried steak. It was not the best I've had, by far, but also not the worst. The last time I visited, I went out on a limb and gave the fish tacos a whirl. I was pleasantly surprised! They were very delicious. My mom is a big fan of liver and onions (I am NOT). However, I did try it, and it was just about the most tender liver I've had in my life. Still have no desire to eat an entire plate, but for those of you that are down with liver, be sure and call ahead to find out what day it's on special (Mondays, I think?). Unfortunately, I have to encourage you to skip the desserts. I've tried the chocolate and blueberry pies, and they are both entirely too gelatinous. If that's your thing, go for it. However, the filling was much too thick and gloppy for my preference. Overall, it's a typical small town experience with a wide range of food choices.

Warm atmosphere and friendly people. Really sad that all I ordered was sweet potato fries and they came out so cold and soggy. Almost wet. They gladly took them back but it took another half hour just for some fries. They were really good after the fact but for my first bite ever in Texas I was highly disappointed. Oh and there was a very random item in my friend's Queso dip.... Still can't figure out what it was.
